Doctor Who 2007: Blink

Y'know, yet another way that this episode is quite special that it actually brings the time travel element of the show to the forefront. In most episodes, the TARDIS is just a convenient gateway to adventure, and once the doctor's where the writer wants him to be, the fact that he's got a universe-spanning time machine is an obstacle to suspension of disbelief that you gotta overlook.

I, too, loved, loved, loved this episode.

But...

Why didn't Martha just call Sally (or someone else, at least to get the proper number)? She's got the whole "Doctor's Special Time-Spanning Calling Plan" thing going on her cell.

Edit: It just occurs to me, if the "time-traveling cell phone signal" has to go through the TARDIS (much as it's the TARDIS that translates languages), then I suppose not having it in the same time period would prevent it from working. But now I'm just making stuff up, I think. Have they ever established that the TARDIS is necessary for the phone to work?

In The Impossible Planet/Satan Pit, Rose couldn't use the phone once the TARDIS fell down to the center of the planet.

No-one's pointed out that Sally Sparrow is a babe. So I will.

Sally Sparrow is a babe! Ow! That's hot!
Well, I'm not gonna argue such profound wisdom. :p So here...

Carey Mulligan = HOT :]

EDIT: Hard to believe she was one the twitty Bennet sisters in the recent Pride and Prejudice.

She also played a lettuce in the BBC's excellent Bleak House a couple of years ago. She was a babe then, too. But really dumb.

I thought this episode was brilliant. It was so suspenseful, and I loved the concept of the Weeping Angels. I immediately liked the character of Sally Sparrow, and Lawrence was an appealingly geeky sort that I think most of us could relate to. ;)

I kept wondering why
the Doctor couldn't return Kathy and Billy to their proper times once he got his TARDIS back, but perhaps since the Angels had stolen their potential to exist in 2007, returning them would have broken the timestream.

I think it was more of the reason that if the Doctor returned Billy and Cathy to the present, it would have messed up with the sequence of events that would have enabled Sally to defeat the Angels in the first place. Thus ridding any chance of getting the Tardis back in 1969. Remember, Billy was needed to place the Doctor's Easter Egg on those 17 dvd's and to give Sally his message.

Time paradoxes.
Kathy married, had children, and wrote to Sally. As such, she was tied into events of earlier in the century, and so couldn't now be pulled out of them. If she'd just sat down and waited, then she could have been saved.

Billy, on the other hand, was needed to deliver a message to Sally in person. Again, this ties him into events of the past forty years, and so couldn't be saved. In his case, there was absolutely nothing could be done - the Doctor needed the message sent, he was the only one who could send it, and that was that.
