Doctor Who

Quantum

First Post
Tonight is the special The Waters Of Mars.

In it the Doctor lands on the first Mars Colony in 2059.

No spoilers, but one of the important things I noticed is they are showing what the true purpose of the companions are for. They are for the humanizing of the Doctor, to give him more empathy for the people and other beings he saves. For, being a Time Lord is starting to go to his head and without his companions, well, it remains to be seen how being alone will further deteriorate him.

What is important is that it is also part of the final story of this Doctor.

Next week is The End Of Time.

Excerpt from a review:

MAJOR SPOILERS

David Tennant’s final story has begun! Doctor Who: The End of Time Part One was screened yesterday on Christmas day, and has opened up a huge debate in Doctor Who fandom. opinion is split on the episode, with some people loving it and some hating it. We’re somewhere in the middle. It wasn’t classic, but it wasn’t bad. Following on from ‘The Waters of Mars’, which was incredible, ‘The End of Time Part One’ seems a little lackluster. This may well be down to it just being one half of the whole story, though. On its won it doesn’t work all that great, but in the larger scheme of things I’m sure it will all slot into place. The return of the Master (John Simm) is something that works really well in the episode. Despite his corny resurrection, his character is much more demented and much more evil this time, along with shocking audiences with his bizarre super powers that allow him to fly and shoot bolts of energy from his hands.

And this specials airs next Sunday on BBC America.

With a special surprise...

Timothy Dalton will be in it.

And as for me, personally I will be sad to see him (Tennant) go. Aside from Tom Baker, he is one of my favorite Doctors.

Side note: spellchecker doesn't recognize some of the British spellings in the excerpt . That's funny as hell.

Yes, these are all re-runs.

As for what the review had to say about Waters of Mars and End of Time, I guess I'm an exception. I found every one of the specials to be absolutely meh. They entertained me, but they didn't thrill me. There were places where they didn't make much sense, but I'm forgiving about that as long as the story is compelling.

I guess I just felt RTD was phoning this last year in. Bring on Stephen Moffet!

I had no idea they were reruns. And at least for my area, the cable company never did show or even advertise for them. I just switched to satellite just last week and have only had it a few days now.

Yes, these ran back in December on BBC America. Of course I DVRed them and just watched Waters of Mars last week and still have to watch End of Time, so to some of us this thread is still timely.

Oh yes, Waters of Mars... where the infected people can magically produce hundreds of gallons of high pressure water from... where exactly?

I don't like magic in my sci-fi, and no, this wasn't "sufficiently advanced technology" :)

I wondered that was well, but decided to overlook it for the sake of the story, but kept coming back to how it just didn't make sense, which in turn, dampened the impact of the story.
