Does anybody else give out XP bonuses for "extras"?

My old group, the DM would give out bonus XP to the people that did things to help make his job easier, for example:

1) Kept track of the in-game date on the calendar, and also in-game time when it was needed
2) The person that gave a summary of the previous adventure at the start of the evening's session.
3) The person that kept notes of each session.

These were not huge XP awards, like maybe 50 or 100xp at lower levels. But, if you do that for 6-8-10 sessions, it can make a small difference.

I was wondering if other groups do that as well?

At one time or another in the past our DMs have given awards for such things. But that has pretty much gone to the wayside.

We generally award the following non-standard awards:

Character history - one time at creation, sometimes a special award for maintaining it current (but not usually).

"Fun" bonus - a combination of incentive to show up and relative rating of the "fun" of the session. I switched froma straight numerical award to a x/level style to try to make it scale with level. Typically the award runs frum 25 to 75 xp/level

Role-playing. While not a non-standard award we typically award a greater amount than the suggested one. Again I have move to the per level style and followed the fun bonus award scale.

We give XP for anyone who emails out a log of the prior session. 50 x character level.

We give XP for the "Most Vibrant Player", IE the best role player of the session, as voted on anonymously by all players. 50 x character level.

One of my house rules is:
"Extra game related efforts like writing a character background, obtaining a character picture, writing an adventure summary, etc. gains you an XP award of your current level x 100."

This can also include things like roleplaying via email between sessions, maintaining the group's Yahoo-site, maintaining the XP and loot spreadsheet, etc.

We do the following bonuses:
+15% XP for the session for writing & distributing session notes
+15% XP for the session for providing lunch for the group
+[variable] XP for purchasing props/supplies that improve the game for the whole group (i.e., a deck of the new Critical Hit cards, but not for just buying your own mini)

Xp

I award Experience Points based on the following criteria:

-Combat: the standard method
-Role-playing, teamwork
-Notes, character record sheets, participation on message board between face-to-face sessions
-Creativity, above and beyond the norm
-Noncombat challenges: traps, talking to Non-Player Characters, larger campaign storylines

I give out "fate points", which the players can use to save their PC's butt, or to do other cool things in-game.

This also means that I don't have to pull punches -- if a player wants to keep his PC, he knows what he must do.

Cheers, -- N
