I relieze it is not a standard D20 published world but does anyone even play it? I was really hoping for more responce than what I have seen.

Haven't played Dark Sun since it came out a good while back, had a very mixed recpetion with my group, but thats probab;y down to the psionic (2nd ed) side of it which wasn't popular (3e psionics being 1000 times better).

I did like Dark Sun though very original idea.

Dark Sun was one of those settings I bought but never got to play. Pity! I would do so in 3E if there were a nice print resource (an all-in-one package).

Dark Sun was my favorite campaign setting for 2e, until Planescape came out-- but until the Psionics Handbook came out, it was impossible to play 3e Dark Sun, and by the time the Psionics Handbook came out, I lived 600 miles away from my gaming group.

If a good 3e campaign setting book for Dark Sun came out, I would be all over it-- almost as fast as I'd be all over a good 3e version of Planescape.

Great! I hope someone is reading this whom decides if Darksun gets a published 3e update. I honestly believe with the new 3e psionics it would take off. It has a truely different feel to it and is at least as deadly and as unpredictable as the Scarred Lands. The history is rich with possibilities with the Cleansing Wars, Orginal 1/2lings and the Thri-kreen nation. Can't forget the Deadlands.
There is political intrigue within the ranks of the trade houses and templars. There is plenty of hack and slash with caravans and gladiatoral matches. Mysterys to solve with the Deadlands and ruined city-states.
And a nice thing- goals for high level characters where you can become a dragon, avangion or elemental.

I was sold on this world back in Dec 1990 or 1991 and continue to be so as currently I am trying to convert it to 3e and do a campaign style comicbook based on rolled out battles and encounters.

I love Dark Sun. It was the most original playable world I've seen so far. I've never really seen much of Planescape, so I can't judge there, but it looked interesting.

We played quite a bit of Dark Sun in college. My friend loved it, owned all the stuff, and wanted to DM it. I thought it was awful. Of course, it could have been his DM'ing.... but I never could shake the "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" feel that it had.

And I hated psionics; still do.
