D&D General Does anyone recall coming across any magic weapons that return when thrown...other than Dwarven Thrower, Hammer of Thunderbolts or magic boomerangs?

I recall BITD having a pair of dagger sheaths that were enchanted to teleport the daggers back after they had been thrown. The daggers had to be placed in said sheaths for some period of time to become attuned.

What I don't recall is if this was a home brew item. If I can find the character sheet it might have a clue.
Matt Mercer did something like this for a dagger-tossing PC in his first campaign.

He homebrewed a magic belt that could hold up to four thrown weapons. After being thrown, the weapons bamf back to the belt.

Someone said it quickly on page 1, but I will re-say it: 4e gave all magical thrown weapons the Returning property as a baseline rule. Which makes sense to me - as a creator, why spend all the time and effort to enchant a durable weapon (i.e. not an arrow) that gets used once? If it doesn't come back, it's not worth it! One thing I did to distinguish between truly designed returning magic, though, is that if it isn't a RETURNING weapon, the return takes time - you can Extra Attack with Dwarven Thrower, but not with Generic Hammer +2, because the second one has to take time to come back. Both an be used again next round, but the DT can be used for every attack this round!

But I do like the Blinkback Belt as a fine solution for convenience of nonmagical thrown weapons (especially since I tend to give players weapons of "special materials" that aren't actually magic and therefore don't benefit from returning enchantments).

We had a similar homebrew item for a dagger throwing Rogue in one of our last high level 3.5E games.

Yup. Especially after the annoyance of having to retrieve them in 3rd, or make an expensive custom magic item like that rogue did, when 4E came out and just said all magical thrown weapons return, we were definitely gratified. "Hey, that's a simple fix!"

Honestly, I never understand why game designers want to make thrown weapons a pain to use. I know there's people out there who froth at the mouth if someone dual wields hand crossbows (or fires one downwards), but the difficulty of actually playing a thrown weapon build in most games even if you wanted to boggles the mind.
