Does Scholar theme let you learn Supernal?

Just a quick question. While I was discussing my character's Scholar theme with my DM, he said that the level 10 Scholar bonus that lets you speak all languages listed in the Rules Compendium and Player's Handbook still doesn't let you learn Supernal because of its special nature. I wasn't sure, but I went with his judgment. However, I just printed off my level 10 character sheet and noticed that I now have Supernal listed as one of my PC's languages.

So, RAI, is the Scholar theme supposed to let you learn Supernal?

Yes, but note that only angels and gods who speak Supernal can speak to all creatures so that they hear the speech in their own language, and only immortal creatures that speak Supernal can understand all languages (so if you're a deva, it's awesome).

(From pg. 69 in the Rules Compendium, under "Languages in the World.")

I agree wholly with Jester. Can't xp because I have to spread some around.

From a fluff perspective, I would probably make supernal the scholar's worse language, on the basis that it's meant to be spoken by immortals.

Thanks for the answers. Can't give you XP, Jester, or else I would.

Not sure when I'll ever need to use Supernal, but good to know that I'm entitled to speak it. ;)

I think the prohibition on speaking it remains in place. Unless I'm mistaken, only immortals can actually speak it.

What knowing Supernal would do is allow you to 'eavesdrop' on a private conversation.

There is no prohibition on speaking it. Only immortals can speak so that it's automatically understandable to any creature, but mortals can speak it normally so that it's understandable to anyone also speaking supernal.

Which is more or less it's only use. Or use it for a private conversation with someone else who speaks supernal an basis that any eavesdroppers are unlikely to understand supernal too
