Does this bug anyone else?

Wow...where did the original question go? :)

Yeah, everyone knows sharing is wrong. Just ask a random person who uses any file sharing utility. You 'steal' in a way. I think that there is no way to justify what you are doing. Personally, I don't see the need to. If I want something, I download it. Even if I have the money, even if it is easily accuirable in the stores. Yes, it's wrong ... so?

If I have a choise between paying 30 euro for a DVD or spending a night downloading, that is an easy choise for me, even when the quality is less and I have to watch it at a 15" screen...

Back on topic:

Of course, there's the Old Man Buzz part of me that wants to comment on why it is you don't seem to have a problem with piracy and how this attitude is related to your age group and your life experience, but that'd be pretty presumptuous. All I can say is, I woulnd't be surprised if your attitude changed once you're my age.

Might be true. I don't know the future. But do you really think that if you tell em to stop using pirated material, it is going to do stop them? I actually doubt that. Again, I think you're better off telling them that you do not want to recieve any illegal material, instead of wanting them to stop using it. You will, I think, need more than a very good argument to make them stop. If you really want them to stop, you best bet might be to threaten with legal action (in holland we have a special phone line to report people who copy CD's), but doing so will leave a lot of hard feelings...

So, if you personally own something that I would like to have, can I have it? Do you mind if I just come on over and take it? Do I need to justify this? Apparently not. I mean, why should I have to actually *pay* for it when I can just take it from you?

But, IMO, what they do is their business.

Cool. I'll be sure to mug you sometime. I know you won't go to the cops, since "what I do is my business".

Where do you live, and how much cash do you usually carry on you?

Oh, come on, you know that is totally different. I wouldn't like it, I would care etc.

You don't have to convince me that what I'm doing is wrong. I know it is. I just don't care.

Well, I can't really argue with that.

But what it sounds like to me is that you don't really have any compassion for anyone but you. You don't think what you do affects anyone else and, if it does, that's their problem, because "you don't care."

I'm sure many of this world's prisoners know what they did is wrong, but they probably didn't care either.

Sounds a little harsh but that's how you come off. But, then, you probably don't care.

RPGs, otoh, are nowhere near this expensive. RPGs are cheap. If you don't have $15 to buy a splat, that's your problem.

i make less than $12,000 yearly. $15 is alot of money to me. i take offense to this comment. if you are poor, i guess you have no right to play huh?

I'm against piracy. I don't use any Pirated material. I had a board member scan the article on the background and weapons in Mecha Crusade (Dungeon 96) five days before I bought the magazine. That was a minor necessity (I had to make a ruling), but I have most of the books I want, and I wouldn't ever steal them.

Now, would someone please link me or email me a link to this Dork Tower comic? I'd like to see it.

There is this kid, named Drew, that I know and he is all about Piracy. I will not let him play with my group because of that (and a few other reasons). I also know a Jordan, who has stolen all of his d20 books (the old fashioned way), and I don't allow him to play as well.

Just stating my opinion, what I have done, and what happens to players that "cheat" in my area. I know what it is like to be a poor college student/teenager, and I know you can skip out on something else to afford those books.

Anything that justifies piracy is just that, justification. It is still morally wrong, as I believe doing anything that hurts others and helps nothing but yourself is morally wrong.

You're right. I know I don't care about many things, and I have accepted that. Guess that's what NE is all about. :/

Sounds like a pretty empty life to me.

What's "NE"? (probably obvious but I'm drawing a blank).

There should be reprecussions for that. NE isn't something people actually see others as, but taking up a mentality like that should result in something.
