DONE RECRUITING for 3.5 Cydra PBP Game! (FULL)

JDragon, as for the stats on a rosebush, don't worry about it. You'll probably have a magical one. I'll give you its stats when I give you your gear.

Let's just say that it is a different, and sometimes remarkably effective, weapon. :)

Ferrix- re: trading out spells and an animal companion for some kind of animalistic traits: do you have something in particular in mind? I just checked Unearthed Arcana, hoping they had some kind of variant like that, but they didn't. Another idea might be to build the feral template abilities into a ranger variant in exchange for some of the existing class features.

Jester, that works.

I just posted the basics on my character. Still need to work on description and background. Will get done as soon as I can.

theJester I've started up a house-rule post to help sort out the feral template and the ranger ability switch-outs here.

There's a feat I'd like to take from AEG that would fit the character concept which is called Improvised Weapon, it's this:

Improvised Weapon
Requisites: Int 13+, BAB +1 or higher
Benefit: can turn anything into a weapon potentially. an item deals damage respective to its size and of a type respective to common sense ;-) All improvised weapons have a critical threat range and modifier of 20/x2. Since you are not technically skilled with improvised weapons you cannot take Weapon Focus or Weapon Specialization with an improvised weapon. If the DM approves it, you could take Weapon Focus (beer mug), but this is highly discouraged (this sentence taken directly from the AEG book, at least some book writers have some humor).

Example/Size/Damage Correlation charty thing
Dime/Fine/1
Key/Diminutive/1d2
Tea-cup/Tiny/1d3
Chair leg/small/1d4
Barstool/medium/1d6
Wagon wheel/large/1d8
Broken door/huge/1d10

I just think it would be very cool to be able to pick up anything and be the harbringer of death with well, a toothpick ;-) The fine and diminutive ones are guestimations.

And in conjunction with that feat, the Throw Anything feat (from CW) would make for a fun time for all.

drakknyte you could always consider the Incarnate Construct which is applied to a construct that has been given actual life and a living body.

Ferrix, that feat looks fine- I think I even have it in one of the AEG books I have (Dungeons, maybe?).

And Throw Anything is fun for everyone indeed- one of the epic pcs took that at very low level (Sybele).

Cool :-) I know it's in AEG Feats, don't know the other book off the top of my head.

Any thoughts on the modifications I posted to the feral template?

I don't really like the incarnate construct idea. It gets rid of the 3 things that make a flesh golem interesting: The construct type, Magic Immunity, and a permanent 1 Cha.

As for why he'd be in a party, I actually came up with a background idea that sort of gives him a reason.

The character started out as the son of a powerful but very eccentric wizard. One day he was killed by enemies of his father. The wizard, being eccentric, decided that instead of just raising his son he would make him a new form that would enable him to protect himself against further attacks. So the wizard took his son's brain and placed it in the body of a flesh golem. Using specially designed spells, the wizard animated the golem so that his son kept his memories and independence in his new golem form.

Of course the wizards son wasn't very happy about this. His new form was hideously ugly and none of his friends wanted to be around him. So the son went looking for people who were used to dealing with the wierd and unusual. What he found was a group of adventurers.

So now the kid-turned-flesh golem lives the life of an adventurer. His father, once an adventurer himself, is happy that his son is following in his footsteps. And the son is starting to get used to, and almost even enjoy, his new life and body.

But- that would kind of defeat the purpose- now the "construct" is not really a construct at all, but rather a previously living creature- as such it should be affected by spells like raise dead, resurrection and necromantic effects - all things that Constructs generally aren't - also it beggars the question - is this a construct or form of undead?

Another problem with this is that the construct now has a mind- no reason for it to be immune to mind affecting abilities as that mind is from a humanoid (unless it is now a dead mind- but then it would be an undead, not a construct)...

To counter that argument I point out Drelvin's sword in the story hour and the sentient enhancement to magic items. It is entirely possible for a construct to have sentience and free will without having a living mind. The brain in the golem's body is simply a recepticle for the controlling forces.

The body of a flesh golem is a mass of (currently) unliving matter animated by arcane forces, not negative energy. Hence, it's a construct, just a construct made out of reallly unusual material.

In general - yes (but I would argue that once sentient it could be affected by mind affects- but that is up to each DMs interpretation). However, what you propose in your backstory is the reanimation of a specific intellect from an implanted brain. This makes it more than just a construct, but rather a means of creating a different way of resurrecting people - hey, if this were possible it would be a way of acieving immortality- create a flesh body (take care to make it beautiful instead of the normal ugly flesh golem) and transfer brain into it. Full intellect, no diseases, aging or worries about food/water etc. This is far preferrable to lichdom or vampirism, and no pesky downside of clerics and paladins being out to kill you for being an evil sod!
