DONE RECRUITING for 3.5 Cydra PBP Game! (FULL)

the Jester

Legend
If you've read my story hours, you might have a lil idea of what to expect.

I'm going to be running a PBP involving one of the players imc who is no longer able to attend our regular sessions due to having a baby any day now. This, obviously, is the recruiting thread. As this will be my first PBP, I'll be feeling my way through it as I go, but it should be fun! So far our players are:

Angel of Adventure
Tallarn

I plan on a total of about 6 pcs. As this is a PBP, I anticipate more rp and less combat that my 'typical' game.

Who You'll Be
You'll be a 13th-level (or ECL 13) character. Though Lester is an established, epic-level pc, there just aren't that many more creatures near his magnitude out there (and all of them are either established npcs or pcs). If you want to use anything from anywhere but the PH, let me know and I'll let you know whether it's okay. I'll assign equipment to you, so don't worry about that (and don't build a concept that relies on specific equipment). Use the standard, '4d6- drop lowest' method of character creation; we'll have a Rogues' Gallery thread for the pcs after I've recruited the players, but for now let's discuss any unusual things you would like to play or do.

Just to get it out of the way, you won't be able to play a drow or half-dragon for campaign reasons.

Oh, and please be able to post to the game thread often once it gets going- preferably at least daily.

You may want to be Chaotic.

The World
The world is Cydra, a vast ocean filled with islands and continents. Your adventures will be starting in the mountains on a continent that is mostly uninhabited, though with your levels and Lester's cohort, you'll be able to travel lots very easily (teleportation, etc). We'll work on backgrounds for each of your pcs.

I have a Yahoo group called Cydra with tons of feats, spells, prcs, etc. from the campaign. Unfortunately, I do not have a map online anywhere, nor do I own a scanner. :( So I need to put that on the 'to do' list, but for now we'll have to settle for verbal description and stuff.

What You'll Be Doing
As high-level characters, you'll have a lot of freedom of choice. However, you'll have a few initial threads to choose from. As I said, I haven't run a pbp before, but as it looks like combat takes forever, I think I'm going to try to slant it more towards roleplaying. Of course, that doesn't mean there won't be combat, just that I fear a single battle taking four months to play out.

All right, time to post this and see what happens! :D

Ooh, a high level campaign. I've never had a chance to play in one of these before. I'd love to join.

For a character I'm thinking a wizard. A slightly lazy wizard who prefers using his magic to make life simpler for himself than saving it for combat. This sounds like a good campaign for him.

I would be up for perhaps a ranger type, thinking along the lines of Riddick from Chronicles of Riddick; survivalist, anti-hero.

Few things... i've been wanting to try a human with the feral template for a while now, plus it'd work really well with the concept; a guy who mostly wants to be left alone but gets dragged into things, can see in the dark, physically tougher than an average human, and most people find his presence savage and animal-like.

Other thing is I'd want to ditch the animal companion and the spellcasting of the ranger as they don't fit my artistic vision ;-) I haven't entirely narrowed down what would be best to replace it with, I'd love to replace them with the monk's wisdom to AC but don't know if that's a bit over the top or not, still haven't figured that out yet.

Lester checking in . . .

Hey guys, glad to see that we are already up to 4 players. Hopefully Tallarn will post in here soon with his character idea.

Drakknyte32 - That sounds like a cool concept. Transmuter, maybe? Now that you mention it, I'm surprised more wizards aren't lazy. Magic can save a lot of time and exertion.

Ferrix - I like the anti-hero idea and 3.5 rangers kick butt! Lester would tell you that its sometimes hard for everyone to love you if you are an adventurer. But, hey, who else is going to kill the local dragon, hill giants, or swarm of orcs that threaten the innocent villagers? And they've got the nerve to complain after its all done!

One plot tie-in idea you may want to explore is that Lester, aka Angel of Adventure, has recently established a School of Adventuring. Maybe you've answered the call for instructors, or want to learn the secrets of the most famous/notorious adventurer in modern Cydran times? (Sorry, Jester, but this School of Adventuring is too cool of an idea not to work into the game. It has such an X-Men ring to it!)

Looking forward to adventuring with you!!!

Ferrix.

The complete warrior players guide has a variant ranger that you might want to consider. In exchange for not having spells you get:
-A 10ft increase to speed,
-The supernatural ability to temporarily increase one of your physical ability scores or wisdom (like the bull's strength, cat's grace, endurance, or owl's wisdom spells) once a day,
-The ability to use neutralize poison or remove disease once a day
-The ability to use freedom of movement on yourself once a day at 16th level.

Not sure if those are a fair tradeoff for the spells you give up but they would probably fit the Riddick concept you're trying for.

Angel.

My theory for the lazy wizard is that they either don't advance very far in the class (too lazy to go adventuring) or they never get any notice because they don't do anything spectacular. The wizard I'm thinking of would definately try his hardest to stay out of the limelight, being famous is just to much work.

Drakk,

Staying out of the spotlight, huh? A very cool tie-in would be with the Nicks, a top secret spy organization headed by (God) King Malford the Magnificent. He's the ruling party on Dorhaus, the continent we will start from, and the Nicks are his CIA/FBI operatives. They specialize in stealth and, most likely, . . . avoiding attention. Jester can tell you more if you like the idea.

A stealthy mage type is always welcome in an adventuring party, especially if they also bring some potent damage and party buffing goodness.

But seriously . . .

What about the School of Adventuring???

Well, it looks like there is still an opening (if you are going for 6 PCs). I would like to throw my hat in the ring BUT wile I can post daily during the week, weekends are egenrally dry as I spend my time with the kids etc. If you are happy with this level of posting, please take me, otherwise I understand fully.

But, if I am in, I am thinking of a Druid.

Sounds like fun, If your still looking for people I would like a spot.

I have just moved and so have no normal group for a live game.

I should be able to meet the posting requirements with out a major problem unless I'm out of town on vacation.

I'm thinking a rogue type or divine caster of some kind.

Let me know, and I'll work more on a concept for it.

Can I play

If you still accepting more players, I like to join.
I can post at least once per day.
For my part, I'm thinking of an arcane warrior concept . The PC also have an cohort- which is decided by the DM.
Let me know if I'm accepted and I will expound on my cha. concept futher

OK, so (not counting Angel of Adventure) it looks like we've got:

Drakknyte32- lazy wizard
Ferrix- some kind of spell-less ranger (maybe feral)
Ghostknight*- druid
JDragon- rogue or divine somethin'
Goldhawk- arcane warrior of some sort.
Tallarn- undeclared.

*Your availability sounds ok- my weekends are mostly full of work and face to face gamin'.

Sounds like we've got a party!

A couple of notes before you all get to madly rolling characters up.

Ferrix, I'll let you use the feral template, let's tentatively call it LA +3. As to the spell-less ranger, I'll happily let you try out the variant in CW if you have access to it.

If anyone wants to play a cleric let me know and I'll direct you to a list of gods with their alignments, portfolios and domains.
