Don't Look Now (spoilers!)

Seriously, don't read this if you haven't seen the movie. I really don't want to spoil the surprise. Instead go watch it. Very unique thriller.

Ok, for everybody who has seen this one, what do you think? Did it scare you? Can you make sense of the ending? I think the ending may be purposefully unsatisfying to rational analysis. I think part of the fear is that both the audience and the main character don't have enough information to reason out what's going on. If anybody has a good rational explanation I'd like to hear it though.

Uh, what movie are we talking about here?

I never saw the movie, but I believe it stays very close to the short story (by Daphne DuMaurier, of Rebecca fame), which I read ages ago. I believe the ending was exactly the same and I do think it's meant to be somewhat unexpected, arbitrary and confusing. It also underlines the way both Venice and the couple's situation is depicted, and retrospectively makes their assumptions and impressions seem even more flawed and pathetic than it already did. DuMaurier wasn't big on neat, clean endings. Compare her "Birds", for example, to Hitchcock's movie version of it.

Yeah, I just realized it's probably rude to post about an old movie which is interesting to me but probably not to most people. Sorry about that. I just really liked it but the ending left me wondering if there was something I was missing. Thought the people at ENWorld would know if anybody did.

Seriously though, if you're a cinema buff go rent it. It's the kind of movie people study in film classes. And it's in Roger Ebert's Great Movies list. It also scared me more than any movie I've seen I think. I could see having very different reactions depending on the person, but if it hits you right it will scare you silly.
