Draconomicon - anyone else think this is exciting?

"you'll discover statistics for all ten of the classic dragons at each of their twelve age categories."

Ho hum...

"dracolich, several different drakes, faerie dragons, dragon golems, many species of landwyrm, an array of planar dragons, a few dragon templates, and more."

Getting better...

What, no mention of the sea drake, dragon turtle, or new aquatic dragons? Guess I'll wait until I can thumb through this one at my FLGS.

Does anyone else think it would be neat to do a Draconomicon-style book about, say, all things undead? Give lots of notes about how undead function in the world of the living, what their non-PC-slaying activities are, why someone would become a lich, new undead types, etc?

Honestly, I could see books like this for several of the more classic monster types. I think the BoVD already covers fiends pretty well, but can anyone else think of some good monster types worthy of a 288-page book?

I think the undead book is a great idea... :)

How about a book of goblinoids? :D My avatar feels lonely and unappreciated at times. :(

I'd like the idea of the goblinoid or undead book but this dragon one doesn't do a whole lot for me. I tend not to use dragons very much in my campaigns except for plot devices. I like to keep the concept fo dragons unapproachable and unconquerable around. Adds to that paranoia factor when a dragon does enter into the storyline.

A book of undead? Check- Slayer's Guide to Undead by Mongoose, by Gary Gygax as well. All the undead in the MM presented in template form, with ecology and roleplaying notes for each type.

Meh.

I'm not very interested in those Slayer's Guides. I've heard the quality really varies, and it still means something to me and my group to see the WotC logo on a book. Hardcovers and good full color art help too.

So let's see what monsters we've managed to collect:

Undead
Goblinoids
Illithids

how about Beholders?

I agree I have three slayers guide... I got two in a lot when I only wanted one of them and I got the other cause I was interested in the race.

Bugbear, obviously ;) I found it to be rather lack luster and that it didn’t really add anything that I could have thought in about 5 or so minutes.

The Amazon one was actually quite good. :) The last one sits collecting dust.

Plus more people are inclined to allow WOTC books for their players... Just look at the number of D&D PbP games that allow other than WOTC books in their games... What like slim to none?
