Dragon 305 back cover ad-worse then the F-word?

Well considering that I keep finding Dragon placed so close to "Maxam" and "Stuff" magazinein atleast 10 differant stores that I go into, the back cover ad seems rather dull.

"Cosmopolitan" and "Cosmo Girl" has covers even more provocitive that the back cover of Dragon. And those magazines end up in young girls hands all the time.

Yeah, I love the good ol' "It's not really our fault we can't be socially responisble" excuse.

Makes me laugh every time.

But that's not what he said. He said to blame him for the oversight. That's the exact opposite of saying its not his fault.

You won't get me to discuss the merits or flaws of our cultural differences. Too flammable. Just understand that there are limits to everything, and that in Europe the limits for swearing and nudity are a bit further out than in the USA.

Nudity definitely, but I somehow doubt that there is any place in the world where people swear more than in the U.S. Maybe it's just me though. I'll have to look into moving to Italy. I'm positive I can offend anyone with my mouth.

Careful there, Wayside. Some people may be tough to offend because if you do manage to offend them, they'd have to kill you. ;)

hmmm, in some regions of Spain an Italy honor is still a fairly important thing, some people try to be hard to be offended, but if offended you could have serious problems. And a clue, even if it's usually fair to say strong insults to a person (specially if you know him, many insults between friends are almost a mark of friendship in certain regions or social circles), but even a small one or simply a disrespect to that person's mother or family can create very angry reactions.

Well I finally got to see the ad in question and I have to wonder what all the fuss is about, it isn't that bad, the way people are going on I expected partial nudity, that is pretty typical fantasy artwork. Of course it seems it's been bash Dragon Magazine week around here. Maybe somebody needs to dig throught the magazine for something else to be insulted by or hate.

Look on the bright side -- maybe it means people have gotten tired of bashing 3.5e, or at least decided to wait until it comes out.

Lo, let it be said, and let it be known; from the mountains on high to the valleys down low; from the waters of the oceans to the sands of the deserts; let it be spoken in buildings, and proclaimed in the public squares: Dragon 305 shall forever more be known as the X-rated issue.

And upon this declaration there was much squabbling, and much bickering, and nashing of teeth. There was crying in the city streets and uprisings among the masses. And men did race their chariots 'round and fire arrows from them, but it was in vain. The art on the paper refused to change and the words on the page would not be altered. Alas mankind saw the clear light of dawn and the crying in the streets became a wimper and no more arrows would be fired from the chariots. Alas, accepted man, Dragon #305 is forever the X-rated issue.

And a deep and lasting peace fell over the earth.

I can't believe all these posts over that! I went and grabbed my new dragon to take a look and its not a big deal. I don't see what the issue is. It wasn't vulgar. Provocative? ok. I thought it was great for what it was. Variety, I love it. Next issue we can do a 180' the other way to satisfy the right wingers and have a prim paladin woman wearing a 1950's June Cleaver dress, and the only hint of skin that can be seen is her face! >: )
