Oh for ----- sake, if you don't want to talk about the ------- ---- word then don't come into a ------- topic that's about the ------- F-word, you stupid ----.

And no that's not directed at anyone, I said it to
A) get your attention
and
B) point out that it's only offensive when it's USED offensively.

NOW onto the message:
I don't see what's so wrong with swears... None of them are insulting in and of themselves.. Lets take a look at the MEANING (Not the usage, b/c almost any word can be used insultingly and obscenely) of some of these words:

----: It's the exact same as poop, poo-poo, crap, dung, and 'Number 2', although NONE of those words are ever bleeped out. Someone just arbitrarily decided that ---- was a bad word, b/c someone decided to USE it as a bad word.

Bitch: A female dog. OR it means to complain.
Only reason it's considered bad is b/c someone decided to USE it as a bad word.

Bloody: Not a bad word in north America, but there may well be some brits out there reading this and gasping that it hasn't been bleeped out. IT means, litererally, full of or covered in blood.
It's only Offensive b/c someone decided to USE it as a bad word.

Bugger: Not a clue what it means, just know that it's a british swear

----: this had no actual meaning that I can discern apart from BEING a swear word. That means that one day someone just decided that puting those 4 letters together made a sound that was insulting, and so decided to USE it as a bad word.

So, if people can just do that and eventually start all this controversy, then I have one thing to say:
DELF YOU, BARMAs!

Ass, Dick, Pussy, ----, Tit, etc, etc.. All are just body parts. The only reason anybody considers any of them offensive is b/c someone decided to USE them as bad words.
Therefore Armpits and Kneecaps to you Toeish censors!

Now as to The Finger? Come on, that's just plain silly... "OH! He's showing me one of his 10 digits, I'm so offended!"
Did you know that in italy (I think) Sticking your thumb at someone is about as insulting as giving a North American 'the finger'?
HMM... In that case.. "Siskel and Ebert give Censorship '2-thumbs up'"
:p

Anybody else seeing a trend here? Words (And gestures) are only insulting b/c we as a society decided they were 'bad'.

Any word USED as a bad word is therefore insulting and obscene and shouldn't be used.. So why not censor this sentence:

Calculator off, you Loud bunch of keying Birds!

Input different words and all of a sudden that goes from being a silly sentence to suddenly being offensive..
WHY?!?!?

I personally just use swears b/c they're a part of life.. I don't see them as offensive and very few people around here do, they're just a form of expression, like saying "I'm VERY Hungry" Expands on HOW hungry you are, saying "I ------- Hate That" is likewise more intensive than "I hate That"... (I don't think Hate is a good thing either way, but that's another thread.)

If someone doesn't wanna read or hear "----", sorry but some people do.
I personally find Country music as offensive as some people find Rock+Rap.. Of Course I don't try (Like many people who will go un-named do) to say "YOU CAN'T LISTEN TO THAT B/C I THINK IT'S BAD"

As for reading a 'bad word'... You don't wanna see Swears in a book, and some people don't wanna see boring, overly-technical stuff, or Mushy stuff, etc, etc.. It's the same thing, so why do you think YOUR wants are greater than mine?

And anybody who says "No, it's not, cuz there's nothing wrong with Mushy stuff or boring technical stuff, they aren't obscene"...
YOU HAVEN'T READ A WORD I SAID!

So in conclusion: The only people who've read this are those that either
A) Allready agree with me
OR
B) Are just reading it for things to argue against, and don't actually realize what I'm trying to say
OR
C) Are bored or enjoying the argument.

Edit: No cheating around the profanity filter, please. -Dinkeldog

I thought you were born and raised in the UK?

Nope. Born in Melbourne, lived there for 20 years, then moved to Ballarat and have been here for about 10 years.

I lived for 6 months in England when I was 6. :)

You see... there is no reasonable answer you can give. It's not logical. It's just you saying it's offensive because... because... because it just is!

Logic has very little to do with how people feel or how they treat each other.

Logically you may be right, but emotionally you can be dead wrong - and offending other people can be extremely perilous.

Cheers!

There is a significant differnce between someone specifically calling someone else an idiot, and another person saying some people just want to find a reason to be offended (and including himself in the group). Just because he's a moderator doesn't mean he's not allowed to have an opinion. You're certainly encouraged to point out if you think that he's skirting the line, however. Eric was more trying to diffuse the thread from degenerating into name-calling.

Whereas, I've given up, so all I'm going to do is try to keep people from skirting the profanity filters.

Oh, and someone was wondering why :):):):) is considered offensive. It's because it was used by the Saxons. After the Normans invaded, it helped differentiate the social structure they set up.

Actually I'll go one step farther and call this horse officially dead, beaten, and decomposed. Say goodnight, Gracie!
