Dragon 370 - Roll vs. Role: The Longest Night

Maybe the series is a way to offer up articles that alternate between role-playing encounters and roll-playing encounters?

(just guessing there...)

What... is the point of roll vs. role, exactly?

Dragon: Roll vs Role said:
Ever noticed that a D&D monster is often shoehorned into one particular application? Well in Roll vs. Role, we’ll pick a monster in each article and give you a detailed example on how to more fully explore the creature’s place in your D&D campaign.

Basically the articles look at a specific monster type and give some different ideas on how to use them in your campaign.

So far we have had:
Dragon 364: The Bile Spider tribe of goblins, who are alchemically enhanced.
Dragon 365: Yuanti worshipping cultists
Dragon 366: A town and area under the grip of a troll tyrant.
Dragon 370: A regon under the sway pf a dragon overlord, some particularly interesting twists and a nice example of how to set up a memorable dragon encounter.

I think the idea is to use familiar enemies/mechanics (rolls) in new and novel roles. The articles usually have a "but what if (enemy) did something unusual for its type?" hook/ Previous articles have led me to believe that trolls generally don't have the brains/motivation to take over and rule a town, or that red dragons are rarely theocratic, tribute-demanding overlords. The articles exam the implications of going against fluff canon..even if we weren't aware of it.

I don't think I ever saw 365's released. was it delayed or something? The link is not active in the archive.

edit: Sonovacrap! I've been running a game dealing with the snaketongue for 4 months now and didn't freakin' see this article!!! ARrrgh! Found it in the roleVSroll archive.

Thanks for the heads up, Phaezen! You rock.
