We are now at a point where parents feel they should hide Dragon from their kids? Not because they don't want them to game, but because they are too young to deal with seeing a sexual portrayal of a demonthing from hell? I don't think Dragon needs prurient covers to sell their magazine. In fact at least a couple more people would have seen it (Fenzer's kids) if it didn't have such a cover. Don't get me wrong. I'm not in favor of censorship or telling Dragon "Don't put sexy pictures on your magazine because it's morally wrong!" But I do remember buying Dragon and letting my young nephews see it and not hearing their mom tell me not to let them do that. My playboy collection was strictly off-limits. The point is we want this hobby to expand as time goes by, and the younger generation cannot be exposed to gaming early enough in my opinon. Deliberately creating product that is arguably innapropriate for young teens is counter to an expanding market.

Larry, I hate to say it but I have hidden more than one copy from my kids. At 7, 5, and 2, I feel they are still a little young for alot of the fantasy images out there not just the mild porn stuff. I have thought many times about when I should introduce gaming to my kids and I must say I am still not there yet. Some would say what you do and indoctinate them early but I feel I should wait. I want them to play but not because I want them to play but because they want to play. I want them old enough to enjoy the game for its merits not because it's something that daddy does.

Fenzer,

I agree wholeheartedly - it is not so much that it is porn - but rather, an effort (perhaps misguided) to delay exposure to more mature topics.

These include violence, sexual images, language, etc. Fundamentally, I go through the same process for all entertainment, be it movies, magazines or D&D - there are just some things that I do not need to have to explain to my children.

"A hobby for the Mature Minded"...? If that were true, I'd imagine we'd see less succubi on the cover of Dragon. The truth of the matter is that a large portion of D&D players are in their teens.

Thank you for hitting the nail on the head.

That said, looking at the jpg of the cover, I don't find it particularly offensive. And this is me, who doesn't mince words at Mongoose's out of place pin-up art in their books.

I had the same wish for Alhandra....

Maybe they'll take a clue from the LotR movies. I like the women (and the men as well, imagine that!) from there.
