In today’s Unearthed Arcana, we explore character options from the Dragonlance setting. This playtest document presents the kender race, the Lunar Magic sorcerer subclass, the Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds, and a collection of new feats, all for use in Dungeons & Dragons.

Kender have a (surprisingly magical) ability to pull things out of a bag, and a supernatural taunt feature. This magical ability appears to replace the older 'kleptomania' description -- "Unknown to most mortals, a magical phenomenon surrounds a kender. Spurred by their curiosity and love for trinkets, curios, and keepsakes, a kender’s pouches or pockets will be magically filled with these objects. No one knows where these objects come from, not even the kender. This has led many kender to be mislabeled as thieves when they fish these items out of their pockets."

Lunar Magic is a sorcerer subclass which draws power from the moon(s); there are notes for using it in Eberron.

Also included are feats such as Adepts of the Black, White, and Red Robes, and Knights of the Sword, Rose, and Crown.

Hrm - given who's names are on the Dragonlance UA I assume Wesley Schneider is the lead developer, meaning this is the second classic setting returning this year, rather than the first one Chris Perkins was heading. Based on Winninger's comments, what 'previously unused format' would fit Dragonlance? Maybe a slipcase, with both a campaign setting and an adventure book in one bundle?

A classic Adventure module reprint with Setting material?

That's what I'm envisioning - either a hybrid book that has an adventure coupled with setting material and player options, or two books as one bundle. That being said, I'm unfamiliar with the history of Dragonlance adventures outside of the War of the Lance.
Oh, if they do that, they are doing War of the Lance, the original DL modules. I'm pretty sure the third Feat package is for the Goldmoon equivilent Background

The Kender came about when the Graysgem, an item of chaos, brought them into being. It's not an adaption and has nothing to do with natural selection. Even with the new "fey" change, fey are like demons, devils and angels. They aren't races that came about due to evolution, so the fearlessness could easily be part of Kender.
Right, and I acknowledged that they could have been created that way, and rebutted that they would still struggle to survive with such a trait.

Okay, Horribly broken Divinely Favoured feat aside, some thoughts.

Kender are boring, and shouldn't taunt give disadvantage on attacks against anyone apart from the taunter?

Loony sorcerers: well they circumvent having to track lunar phases. Spell list is a bit dull. Generally fine though.

High Sorcery feats: It seems ironic that the class that gains the least benefit from these feats is wizard, since they can acquire extra wizard spells for money.

Squire feat: also ironically better if you are not actually a fighter or paladin. Doesn't matter so much though since you get this for free anyway and the higher tier feats are fine (and warlordish) for any class.

As for the changes, well Dragonlance hasn't aged as well as other settings and clearly needed an overhaul. But I have no stake in this since I have no interest in running a Dragonlance game and won't be buying this book. Not that I am complaining - I'm looking forward to Spelljammer.
