Dragonscale armor

I have one question regarding your rules -- do the bonuses for natural AC and armor type AC stack? If so, then some suits could provide bonuses as high as +14 correct?

No. They don't stack.

Hey, kreynolds,

Having finally had a chance to properly digest your homebrew rules, I had a few minor comments/questions:

1) I wonder if Natural AC is the best choice. It seems a little awkward to me. Natural AC tends to be more "personal rigidity" than a suit of armor. Perhaps just calling it a Hardness Bonus, or some such? Plus, that way it can still stack with another source of actual Natural AC.

2) Maybe I'm just a cronic tweeker, but if I had my druthers, I'd maybe alter your numbers a bit. For armor, perhaps simply double the "+" of the DR to get the additional hardness bonus. So 5/+1 and 10/+1 both give +2 hardness. 15/+2 gives +4 and 20/+3 gives +6. Shields could be half that (or equal to the DR "+", in other words). I would also think about allowing dragon hide armor younger than those with a DR rating to get a flat +1 hardness (none for shields), simply because it is still dragon armor, even if fairly young. After all, many dragons can be size Large and still not have DR.

3) Why not allow scale mail armor? That seems like something feasible.

4) In our own rules set, we relaxed the size requirements a little as well. Maybe you should look into that. As it stands in the MM, in order to make medium-size fullplate armor, the dragon must have been Colossal in size. When you realize that only Red, Gold and Silver dragons ever get that big, it can be rather restricting and silly. To us anyway, but YMMV.

Interesting idea, all-in-all. Good job.

Oh, interesting. I didn't get that impression from your write-up. So then your version of dragon hide armor provides less protection than normal armor of the same type?

Maybe a bit more elaboration would help.

Thanx.

The only benefit the mithri full plate has over the dragonscale is that the spell failure if 5% less and counts as a medium armor (10' higher speed).

As others have said, speed 20. However, you do get hte benefit of being able to run at x4 speed, which heavy armor doens't allow you to do.

My bad, I misread your question when I first read it. (I'm gettin' my butt kicked at work today!) Yes, they do stack, just like standard armor and shields.

Actually it was Quickbeam who asked originally. I just responded because I was there and also curious. No big.

But I wonder if we are all on the same page.

I believe Quickbeam was asking if the following example is correct:

Ancient Wyrm Red Dragon Fullplate Armor = +14 AC (+8 armor, +6 natural).

I can't imagine this not being the case. It should. But that is how you originally seemed to answer.

I would be interested in getting your feedback on my questions/comments when you get a chance. I suppose I can wait until you're done letting work kick your butt, of course. ;)

Do you think you could add the dragons from the supplements to the listing? MoF and psionics web enhancement particularly. Thanks

another DragonScale variation plug!

mine isn't as fancy as (~S)KReynolds ... and it's attached as a word.doc. For best viewing results open this in a real word document ... in word pad the table will be a bit on the wonky side.
