BOZ

Creature Cataloguer
i don't normally do this, but i love to drive krishnath nuts with it. ;) i FINALLY started on my drakes conversion today. instead of doing them one at a time, i'm doing them all at the same time, bit by bit. as you can see from what i've posted, there's a lot left to do on them, but the barest bones construction is now there. i'm not doing any work on them on the weekend (hey, it's my anniversary with my girlfriend, cut me some slack), but i will resume work next week, and hopefully have them done... before the end of the month. :) in the meantime, watch for posts on updates on this thread.

feel free to make comments/suggestions!
one thing you will no doubt notice about them is both how similar and how different they are from the traditional dragons...

Edit: i removed the stats from this post. please locate the attached doc file within this thread to read them. :)

Boz has a girlfriend!!! <Head Explodes> :D Nah, I'm kidding ya'.

But since when does drakes have age catagories? I thought they where more like Wyverns and the Psudodragon.

(Can hardly wait to see the finished drakes.)

favor to ask from ya boz ...

I kinda did up a big conversion of some Pern-type dragons .. it's in word ... I was wondering if I sent it to ya if you'd look it over? ... I'd post it, but it's all in table format and doesn't transfer well at all.

thanks for anyone who's interested,

[edit: TJ that goes for you too!]

Update!!

hey is that a .doc attachment capability I see there?

I could have sworn a month ago it wasn't and was only .txt!

I was sure of it, cuz I had to convert my big list of armor to txt from .doc ...

lemme try too!

anyway if it works: I did some minor campaign conversion for Pern like setting or addition. very little flavor, mostly some simple rules. (note: I know that fire lizards shouldn't get teleport as a psionic ability, but they deserved it)

here it goes ....

note: there's a table here, so if you try to open from location it gets all screwy ... save it to disk then look at it. ej

****go here for all the new stuff, Pern references edited out***

Hey wolf what is the number in parenthesis for in the CR? Dragons aren't my speciality but I really liked the watch dragon, I'll run some numbers tomorrow but I think it's CR might be a 3.
I'll check it out in full tomorrow.

( ) are if you use the psionic template or not ... the default should be the ( )'s

If you don't use the template the * next to a power means that it should be given as SU ability for watch dragons that is "see invisibility"

reminders to all: if you open this "from current location" they primary dragon tables will all be goobledy-gook ... they work if you save to disk then open from word.

thanks NJ+J!!

Boz: looks good, could do with some descriptive text though (I wan't to know what they look like dammit!)

Note: doc format? Expect to see some new dragons (and a repost of the Azure) in the near future. :D

Edit: Forgot the color closer, silly me. :D

THe more I look at your watch Dragon the more I like it Wolf. It is a good CR 4 creatures. I don't use psionics much but I don't know if the CR goes up by 2 by just having them.

My only question is about the leap ability. Is it like the MM, the dragon can use full movement and the get four claw attack with full str damage bonus?

Just one final thought. YOu might one to increase the jump skill so It can "leap" over opponets to get to spellcasters and other protected attackers.

CR

( these are the proposed changes, waiting for feedback :) )

... is based off what the PsiHb says (+2 CR for 4-7hd). Easy change would be to make it CR3 (CR5 with Psitemplate). I went with 4 because in the Dragon mag article it reccomended that dragon type creatures CR be towards the high end of range (dragons get good stuff ... all high saves, immunites, feats, sk points)

leap: you could make a jump check ... at a +6 that's not very high, (checking MM for pounce/leap) ...

MM (pounce from dire tiger): ... leaps upon a foe during the round of combat, it can make a full attack even if it has already taken a move action ...

Pounce: + Improved grab: + Rake[edit pt3: rake can also be used during a pounce routine, check the MM (below)]:

I'm think of just using that routine from the MM (p59) ... Pounce, Improved grab, & Rake ... [what do think on that?]

that way a watch dragon could, during the first round (+7 init) ... Charge, Pounce, improved grab (bite), then rake with 2 claws [attk +3, dmg 1d6+1]

being able to jump over a front line of fighters (especially if it wins init and they are flat footed) would require a jump check.

Jump (running): min distance 5ft. add'tl distance 1 for every point above 10. +1/3 total distance (for 40ft movement) ... with an avg roll of 10 a watch dragon could make a leap of 14ft 7 inches. max distance would be about 24-30ft based on height of the dragon (about 4-5ft at the shoulder?) ... that should be enough to clear a 5-7ft wall (think of real world big cats) or line of warriors caught flat footed :)

more points to jump: hmmm switch out alterness: for skill focus jump [use +3 not +2], or Mental Leap from the PsiHb [you jump 2x as far/high as indicated on the jump check, this doubleling does not count against the max distance] ... so that jump check would be 29ft 2 in ...

thanks krish. text will be forthcoming, soon as i type it. the tables are usually the hardest part, so i figured i'd get them done and out of the way first. anyone have any comments on the stats thus far? :)
