Draw Steel News

My reading on the situation was that they know Daggerheart is in the wind right now. They know they cannot really compete for media attention in that environement, and that they are hence waiting for the physical release for their PR-push.

I just watched the video and I think Matt is engaged with the game quite strongly. It was also made at the time of launch and I think he had a bunch of things going on for the game. But he was involved with the game, asked a bunch of questions, and was generally helpful.

I think Matt and I have similar playing styles in a game, in that I have to keep myself under control or I sort of take over things. I think that comes from largely being a GM over the years and being the one talking a lot. So I try and be quiet so as not to just direct play too much. I think that's what Matt's doing here.

I suggest watching the video if you have time and want to see how the game works in practice. It made me appreciate it more, but also realize that some of my players won't be able to deal with the more complex character options. But fortunately, I have three groups of people I play with, so I'll have to try another set of players and see if they like it. I think that the video made it look like everyone was having fun, and that's a good sign.

I've tried to read the PDFs several times. I just can't do it. I need a Knights of Last Call video series or something.
They did one for the beta, and Derik spent the amount of time you'd expect him to on it. He's said they're doing one for the full release since he backed it, it will just be a bit. From reading the books, it's crunchy and I think it has enough similarities to 4E that I wasn't lost. I think I will try and do one of the quickstart adventures and see what happens.

Apparently The Delian Tomb adventure is meant to teach you the game as you go along.

He actually talked about that game. He was roleplaying fairly silently because his revenant character was losing memories of who they were in life prior to the character they were becoming, and they were in silent mourning. In several other videos, before and after that first Delian Tomb play, he said that he was close to crying for that character due to what we could call "bleed."

Also, in another video he says that the reason he's not at GenCon is simply that he feels that he's done with GenCon as a convention that he enjoys. It's changed with its increased size. I don't think that he enjoys the large crowds and being constantly stopped by people.

I can totally see why he'd not go to Gen Con.

Yeah, I think it might have been Twitter where he said that once he began getting stopped every 40 feet for photos, signatures or just to say Hi... sometimes by people actually physically grabbing him to stop him... that's when he stopped going.

That's the curse of celebrity-- you become well-known enough that the stuff you do is more greatly appreciated and you earn much more money than you ever did prior... but you also have to deal with masses of people wanting just a little bit of your attention all the time.

It’s a catch-22. He’s the face of the company, he’s got their biggest product so far releasing, and it’s his company. Gen Con’s a big marketing opportunity.

On the flip side, if you HATE it, you are ultimately the boss and what other reason do you own a company than to make your own decisions. Plus you want the product to be more than just you.
