Drinking While Gaming? Warning -- mature content (I hope)

Beer bottles!? They stack up and only serve to distance us from our dice!! We must PLAAAAY...the game is the thing and to get things happening in-game one must have focus. We take our gaming fun very seriously...:p

One of my groups plays at my flat. Noone else drinks as all but one (apart from me) are driving. I don't drink at home.

The other group plays in a pub. One guy has one or two shandies, then switches to coffee. I would have a few pints, but have a twenty mile drive home, so I don't. The rest of the group don't drink-they all work in a supermarket, and so often keep some very odd hour, so maybe that is why.

In the past (ie when I was a teanager), thing were rather different. One of my friends' parents dubbed AD&D, 'Alcoholic Drinking & Drugs'. They didn't know how right they were :D

I was curious to know how many games involve alcohol and how much is drunk?

No drugs.

Smoking is done in another room for those that can't go half an hour without a cigarette.

Drinking is up to the individual :)

We normally play with a working day the next morning, in which case its usually only a few beers / glasses of wine. But if we're off work the next day, we tend to really make a social occassion out of it. 12 beers/ciders a piece wouldn't go amiss - a bottle or more of wine for those that drink that ... though after 8 bottles things tend to degrade a bit :)

If it is a drinking session, we'll usually have beers ahead of the game too. On rare occassions this has lead to one player falling asleep, but never introduced any problems

(it was actually very funny - with the guy asleep on the chair, and every time it came round to his turn, we'd call his name, he'd spring up like a mechanical toy, roll his D20 and fall back on the chair without knowing what he was rolling for or what the result was :) )

Eveyrone does pretty much whatever he wants, as long as he doesn't get disruptive. We don't really have any morals to speak of. :D

I appreciate it if you bring something to drink for the rest of the group, and I appreciate it if whoever smokes also takes care of opening the window. But even these are not rules, more like guidelines.

Usually two of four players have 4-6 beers during the session, and that hasn't been a problem. Once a player had 12-pack and it got a bit disruptive - in game. His character started acting an ass and attacked others. For the DM (me) it was actually a bit fun.

I rarely drink myself as a DM. Last session I downed a six-pack beforehand, and the session was quite good actually. Helps getting into mood. 6 is the maximum for me though - any more than that and I start to get drunk, and then there is no upper limit to the beers.

Never. Again.

I tried to run with the players tipping some sauce back once. When d20s (or worse, d30s) start getting used as prohectile weapons to get people's attention, it's time to quit gaming.

On the bright side, I did peg one of 'em right between the eyes...

I don't drink and don't particularly want to be around those that do. When I was young and foolish I did mix drinking and gaming. Once I peed myself and the other time I gave myself a burn scar that I still carry some 20+ years later. Drinking and gaming do not mix.

I used to have a player who showed up thoroughly stoned most nights. I was very naive back then, and someone had to point it out to me years later. I just thought he was in character!

Not that I've done any of that in a loooooooooooooong time but, I can't see doing this and trying to run a game. I would just start talking and trail off, staring at my shiny dice.....

We never threw dice! We had the DM Dagger(tm). If the DM was too much of a rat bastard, we'd huck the knife at him.

We usually have a beer or two during the game. I never have more than a beer or two at any time (my drunk days are long past, but not my drinking days). Pretty tame.
