Okay. I just found the magic item or items I need for this build. Splintering bolts. Everything in a 15 foot cube takes all damage from a single bolt on a failed dex save

The Crossbow is really because ( In my humble opinion ) it fits with a Duergar. And also I just like the character toting a "Big Gun". lol

Thanks to extensive practice with the crossbow, you gain the following benefits:

• You ignore the loading quality of crossbows with which you are proficient.
• Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls.
• When you use the Attack action and attack with a one handed weapon, you can use a bonus action to attack with a hand crossbow you are holding.

Because your damage is entirely dice based go crit fighter, as I like to call it, or as most call it “champion.”

Crits only double the damage dice, tho you probably already knew that.
