dumb question re: movement

Basically, I've been re-reading the SRD, and there's nothing in there (that I saw) that says you can't move after attacking. Is this right? We've always played that you take your move action first, then any attack actions. Can someone please clarify this for me? Thanks!

You can move up to your speed and then attack, or attack and then move up to your speed.

You may be thinking of a Charge, where the movement must preced the attack, and be in a straight line.

thanks hyp. so i'm assuming if you attack and then move, you provoke an attack of opportunity, or else spring attack would be kinda worthless. Once again, any replies would be appreciated.

Assuming that you leave a threatened space, then yes, you provoke an AoO (assuming you don't have half-cover or better - Tower Shield, for example - and aren't successfully Tumbling).

Note that it is possible to attack someone without being in their threatened space - if you have Reach, or if the opponent is grappling or flat-footed.

Spring att : move before and after
normal : move before or after

AoO : if u att (once) then 5foot step then move = no AoO if u're not in a threatened area after your 5foot step.

This assume you don't step and move in the same round. It's either-or, unless you have Spring Attack.

Even with Spring Attack, you can't 5' step and move in the same round.

If you're threatened by someone other than the target of your Spring Attack, they're gonna getcha.

That 5-feet step becomes part of your total move. If your base speed is 30 feet and you use Spring Attack on a designated opponent, you move 5 feet and attack, and then you have the remaining 25 feet of movement to be used.

I checked out the feat. Nowhere did it say you need to move at least 10 feet before you attack.

The only drawback is that while you do not provoke AoO from your designated opponent, you provoke others who threatens you within reach.
