I have not read them, on purpose.

I have never read anything by Kevin J. Anderson that I considered worth the paper it was printed on. And I tried. A lot more than I should have. Beyond just being bad, his writing could be described as "infantile", which is the last attribute you need associated with Dune novels.

I believe it is slated for 2026 just not sure when. but yes a season 2 is coming.

I read a chunk of the prequels and the couple of sequels.
Overall, I found the House ones (immediate prequels) enjoyable, not at level of Frank Herberts dune books, but nice look into earlier years of characters from the first Dune book (including delving further into the Emperor and Fenring, which i enjoyed).
The prequels going further were less enjoyable, as they tried to show the Butlerian Jihad, and introduced a number of elements they felt were necessary to be able to do the two sequels, but I dont think Frank would have needed to, as wouldn't have created such Deux Ex Machina that Brian / Kevin did to resolve the sequels, and given they wont release Franks notes, it really feels that they came up with their own fan fiction rather than following Franks notes except for a couple of bits that felt like may have been Franks intent but were crow barred in, and got wedded to their own characters that they felt had to return.
Also, for the record Paul is my favourite Dube character, flaws and all, but in the sequels they seemed to want to try and redeem Paul's character from what Frank showed in Messiah / Children / God Emperor, and that really feels counter to Franks intent, as added as it got sometimes.
I havent read the guild novels that led to the Bene Gesserit series though to give a view on how the series will go, I tapped out as they seemed to diverge further and further, but it may be the guild is brought it back as such.

Yeah, the show looks like a million bucks (and probably cost it), but everything about it feels a little off, but in a very enthusiastic "we love Dune" way. Still, I'd rather have enthusiastic near-misses than half-hearted shows, which we certainly have enough of.

I have always been incredibly turned off by the cloning part of Dune (I have only read the first book though honestly). And I think part of it may come down to Duncan Idaho being named "Idaho" . Like, it is so weird that this character in this space epic over ten thousand years in the future is named after a US state. And Idaho at that.

I liked the ones that were during the rule of the rule of the machines. They were trippy and reminded me of retro-60s sci-fi in a good way.

I have always been incredibly turned off by the cloning part of Dune (I have only read the first book though honestly). And I think part of it may come down to Duncan Idaho being named "Idaho" . Like, it is so weird that this character in this space epic over ten thousand years in the future is named after a US state. And Idaho at that.

That's intentional, I think. We get something mundane to us to show how far in the future this is, that "Idaho" doesn't have any real meaning to the people in that world; by this point in the future, it's just a last name.

I always took it as one of Duncan’s ancestors being originally from Idaho. Back in the day, some surnames originated simply as the place of origin of a given person, e.g. Leonardo da Vinci is literally Leonardo from Vinci.

And it also felt on brand for the setting. After all, the original Atreides were the descendants of the mythological Atreus, king of ancient Mycenae, so it seems that people 20000 years in the future, in a vastly different corner of the Galaxy, still like to trace back their origin to Earth places and cultures.
