Dungeon 114 Cover

Hmm... I must admit that I do not like the new logo. It is too retro for my tastes and does not invoke a feeling of the fantasy product it is. I still lament over the fact that Polyhedron was dropped, because it was the major incentive for be to buy the magazine. I do not need short adventures, but I liked the minigames and revived settings it provided. I do hope that Dragon remains useful to me as a DM as I find it to be a great source of inspiration for my games. I would also like it to contain more "fluff." One of the great things about the old Ecology articles, for exampel, was that they were narrated by a person studying the critters. This made them alot more interesting and, IMO, better gaming material.

The thing that jumps out at me most is that the cover artwork is now much less cluttered with text. I think this is really a good thing, as it draws the eye to it as a curio more than the old cover did.

In regards to the logo itself...I don't dislike it. It doesn't do anything special for me, but I don't hate it either.

In regards to the breakdown of Dungeon being for DM's, I'm not to quick to be happy about that. It's not that I think it shouldn't be for DM's, but rather I want Dungeon to focus on adventures, not DM aids!

I like the new look, or at least what I've seen of it. Never was wild about the current cover logo. Besides, it's the content that really matters.

I like the new cover well enough, and I really like the new direction.

I buy both mags everymonth anyway, so it;s nice to have content spread ebtween them.

Good interview as well...

The new logo looks a bit, uh, something. I kinda wish Paizo had put its ideas out there to the community, maybe a "Here are the three finalists for the logo, what do you guys, our subscribers think?" I'm not one for group-design, so I'm not advocating that the community create or co-create the logo--just some input from the people. After all, if they'd said "We need it to be eye-catching, it has to attract new customers, etc., etc." we'd have responded. D&D players are a quite intelligent lot--engineers, lawyers, teachers, etc., etc.

I'm all in favor of a magazine devoted to adventures, and, fitting that theme, extra stuff for the DM to throw at players.

The Dungeon cover looks good overall. The magazine cannot go wrong by refocusing on adventures. It used to be titled Dungeon Adventures. I'll miss Polyhedron but not enough to make me want to discontinue the magazine. Poly hit its peak for me with Omega World. I'll keep subscribing as I have for years. The Shackled City Adventure Path has been fun to watch, and I would love to run it. I look forward to the retooled classic adventures.

Dragon holds as little interest for me as it always has. I've got a very few issues, and I don't plan to buy more or subscribe. I don't need a lot of extra D&D rules. The core game works fine for me. If I want something different, I want something really different but based on the D&D rules I know & love (like OW mentioned above or Judge Dredd).

But, that's just my taste. I wish Paizo continued success with both periodicals.

While I'm at it, what do people think of the new "Dungeon is for DMs, Dragon is for Players" concept? Will it make you more likely to buy one or both of the magazines?
actually, this change makes it less likely that i'll buy either magazine.

i always preferred Dragon's DM-focused articles to its player-focused ones. now i'll not be seeing them anymore in Dragon. so i now have much less enthusiasm over Dragon, and most likely will not be resubcribing when the time comes.

on the other hand, i don't use (or feel i need) Dungeon's adventures, and don't want to waste money on them just so i can get the few DM-focused articles that formerly were in Dragon. i won't be subscribing to Dungeon, but then i never have. i have bought single issues of Dungeon before, but only for the Polyhedron minigames. i doubt i'd buy a future issue of Dungeon just for a DM article, though.

i know i'm just a drop in the bucket, but this change has lost Paizo at least one formerly loyal customer.

I'm down with the new cover layout and logo, but what's on the cover really doesn't matter that much to me (as a subscriber, I'm past the impulse buying stage), it's what's inside that's going to count. If providing useful, entertaining adventures remains the focus of Dungeon, then I'll be happy and continue to purchase.

But then I bought the Maure castle issue (GREAT!), skipped 113 but will be buying 114. If I like what I see will continue buying.
Same here. Isle of Dread? Sign me up!

Now, can't say I'm a fan of the new logo, but no big deal to me. I do like the layout though, less clutter (as others have noted).
