Dungeon Crawl Classics - which are the best?

Mercurius

Legend
As many of you probably know, Goodman Games is having a "3.5e closing sale" on Dungeon Crawl Classics PDFs through the end of the year--most are $2. I was thinking of buying a few, and wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations. I also like setting info--I already have the Gazetteer of the Known Realms PDF; are there other setting accessories in the DCC line?

And yes, I would be converting them to 4e--or at least mining them for ideas.

Thanks!

All from the top of my head so I hope these are correct in names and numbers.

No real other Setting ones. Castle Whiterock is a must, even as a PDF and for that price it is beyond good.

The Adventure Begins and the Adventure Continues are great as they have many short adventures in them. I really like the Dragonfiend Pact and Transmuters Touch as well. The ones that are the tournment modules I've never ran but they are nasty fun to read through. I enjoy the ones featuring the Rat King (1 and 27 I think). 12 and 12.5 made for a good pair of linked adventures. The freeport one is a good in a repulsive way. Not so much freeport as proving Rob is a sick (in a good way) writer.

Honestly, even the ones I liked the least I was able to get good enjoyment out of.

You'd be hard pressed to go wrong at $2. I'd go through the back catalog, pick out the themes that you think will appeal to your table, and then maybe peripheral ones that just sound cool.

I'm worried that when these are gone, they are GONE (pirates, not withstanding). This is a huge back catalog of adventures (+50 adventures) and you know that collecting is going to drive the print prices through the roof. Some titles already go for ridiculous figures and I think it is only going to get worse...

Favorite DCC's

I played in a campaign where the DM only wanted to run DCC's. Overall, from what he chose they were fun.

Here's what we played in the following order:

#1 Idylls of the Rat King--a total blast.
#2 Lost Vault of Tsathzar Rho--okay, but forgettable. Probably the least entertaining of them.
#3 The Mysterious Tower--okay overall
#7 Secret of the Smuggler's Cove--liked this one.
#5 Aerie of the Crow God--this was a fun mod too.
#6 Temple of the Dragon God--okay overall
#12 The Blackguard's Revenge--a tough module, but okay.
#4 Bloody Jack's Gold--this module was a total butt-kicking on us, challenging, frustrating at times, but was a blast to play overall to its conclusion. You have to play it to its end or else you'll just get annoyed with the mod.

We were supposed to play some homebrew mod and then cap it with #13 Crypt of the Devil Lich, but the DM got lazy on us and bailed on the campaign.

There are a few threads to this effect already:

But, at the very least, consider:

DCC 49 (The Adventure Begins) and DCC 48 (The Adventure Continues). They're anthologies for the same price as the single modules.

For $5, Castle Whiterock and the Gazeteer are good buys as well.

Other oft recommended adventures I picked up from prior threads include DCC #50 (the one with the rotating dungeon) and DCC 51.5.
