Dungeon Tiles - an appreciative note

That's strange since a couple of people on this board have stated that they already have them. Did only some of the shipments get delayed? Or are some European places selling them early again?

I think some European places have a different street date than here in the ol' USA. It would certainly explain why so many people get sourcebooks a week or two before I can lay hands on 'em.

Where did you get the big grassy maps?

I'm guessing they're part of the new set. Each set has had two mega-tiles - in the first set it was an inn and another building, in the second it was two levels of a tower. For a set about tombs, it would make sense to have a graveyard area with a tomb in it.

Yes, they're part of DT3. The 4 big sides are a graveyard, stables, a crypt with sarcophagi and the room with the big U-shaped part in the middle (see picture 1, upper right. The stairs aren't on the tile itself, but it's a good place for stairs.)

But one other thing I learned - you can draw on the tiles with wet erase markers and wipe them off easily without damaging the tile. I don't know if that was intended, but I drew on one of the portcullus tiles with the black marker, and even after leaving it overnight the markings wiped off easily the next day.

I did a bit more testing over the last few days, with lots of different colors. Red, Blue, and Purple left definate color behind - they don't seem to wipe off very well. (Of course, I had left these on overnight for a definitive test.)

Yellow and green seemed to wipe off fairly well.

Black wipes off, but sometimes leaves a bit of a darkness behind. This doesn't seem to be as much of a problem - the tiles have a bit of a dark/gritty look to them anyway, but there is a faint trace of the line left behind. I've decided that it's a light enough trace that I'm not worried about it.

Was using the tiles last night in my Shackled City campaign, and everyone really liked how they worked. I'll definately keep buying more - I suspect I'll end up with at least two copies of each set.

How far into Shackled City are you so far? And how much of the dungeons have you been able to map with the Dungeon Tiles? Have you had to change any of the dungeons at all so that the match what tiles you have?

I'm interested because I have both the Dungeon Tiles and the SCAP hardcover and would like to do the same thing sometime in the future.

Well, we're just in the first adventure, in J---. The tiles work generally very well, but I do have to draw on them from time to time - there's a pool room where I used a black marker to indicate the location of the pool and the irregular walls - in another room I used the marker to indicate columns, although I probably could have used some other sort of disk to indicate the columns.

I've currently got one set of DT1 and two of DT2, and I suspect I can create just about any room or area for now. I may try cutting out some triangles out of black paper to indicate some of the irregular rooms, though.
