Dungeon Tiles + dry-erase markers = bad idea?

Dry erase markers generally only work on whiteboards, in my experience. They seem to have permanently stained my wet-erase battlemat in the 'testing' square. :( That's too bad, because I bought the 16-pack of dry erase markers with all kinds of colors.

Hope this helps -

Whups, you're right. Here's the thread where the various colors are discussed: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=188092.

Only applies to wet erase markers, and I think the consensus in the past has been "hardly worth the risk".

I write on my tiles with my black marker every game, pretty much - although now that diagonal pieces are available in the newest set of tiles I won't have to do it as often. I don't have much trouble with wiping it off - sure, there's a faintly darker area where the line used to be, but you kind of have to be looking for it and given the rough/uneven ground color it doesn't matter if you do kind of see it.

That said, I suggest testing a piece with your own marker and seeing what you think. In one of the first two sets there's a tile where one side is misprinted - it makes a fine test area.

But Red's a poor idea.

I'm considering getting some of the WotC Dungeon Tiles (I saw some at a friends' house and was very impressed), but I'm curious if you can use a dry-erase marker on them and be able to wipe the tiles off afterwards.

I use the tiles *all* the time, with dry erase. Every couple of months, I steal a bottle of my daughters nail polish remover and give it a good cleaning. Works like a charm, nice new surface.

Seriously, though, if you're going to go as far as investing in large-ish clear plastic overlays, why not skip the tiles altogether and simply go with a Battlemat?

Invest? They are about $0.075 per sheet or less ($7.50 for 100, or better since I didn't really shop around).
