Dungeonscape art gallery is up. Notably the return of the rotgrub!

I love the nod to the old school that these pics are showing. I like the Tomb of Horrors pic. And the Rot Grubs. And Demogorgon. I'm looking forward to it (I'm a sucker for art anyway).

The rotgrub never left. Check your Tome of Horrors.

A swarm of them's pretty cool though.
I refer to that wotc never brough them back until now. I picked up the tomes, but I felt the decision not to include the rot grub in wotc material was a symptom of the "3e attitude".

ToH came out pretty early on. From what I understand, Necromancer was given the rights to use these, and other "trademark" 1e critters provided they were designated open content, and with some sort of gentleman's agreement that WOTC wouldn't trump the ToH version in later WOTC products. (or so said the hype when the ToH came out) I'd guess that's why it was never in any D&D books....because it had been done already.

Also, yes Whizbang, they're listed as a hazard rather than a bona fide critter. Not sure its in the DMG though.

Ahh... as mentioned in another thread. I was giddy to bring them back. I did not have much room in the book for monsters (and a couple got cut), but I stood fast and demanded the Rot Grubs stay (not that I faced any real opposition to that).

The art for the book turned out really nice actually... there is a story behind them, but I think I will save that for later.

:D The most undignified character death returns with a vengence!

No, IMO, that place will always be held for being stripped of all gear, shaved bald, tied up with rope (no gag, of course--if you yell, you'll just attract the predators in the dungeon!) made of other adventurer's hair and left in a dungeon corridor by Jermlaines.

that is so beautiful in its hideousness! :)

At least anyone seeing these will not think that 3e players will interpret these pictures to mean that they are invincible. :)

Though it's been quite a while since I've unleashed the dreaded rot grub on an unsuspecting PC, my current AoW game reminds me that Kyuss worms are pretty much the same thing, if not worse as an end result.
