D&D 5E Dungeonscape Lives!

I've got zero investment in this project, but the message seemed fairly simple. Their 5e license (the magical tools) for Dungeonscape (their magical storytelling tome) has been pulled by WotC (seaweed). It is interesting that they mention the holidays; it implies that they're very close to something and losing 5e doesn't gut the entire project.

Yup. Some Wizards apparently.

That's why I ask if the app will work with 5e. I don't want to follow these updates if they aren't of any use for me and my group.

Ditto.

At this point, we know that it's probably software and probably related to one or more role-playing games. That's about it.

That's an awful lot to take on faith. I'm willing to hang in there for now, but… definitely disappointing.

I mean, I'm willing to play amateur cryptographer, but if the answer at the end is "so we're reworking the whole thing for Savage Worlds", I'd really rather know that now so I can disengage. I like the company and I liked the way the beta was headed, but if it's not for 5e or 3.5, it's not for me. If it's not digital tools usable by a player (I don't DM), it's not for me. There's just so little to go on, I don't even know if it's worth reading between the lines.

I for one can't wait to see what unfolds....I know the little elves are fast at work on something in their shops, they are not a crew that will just toss up their hands and go home.

Odd. The narrative makes it seem like the following chain of events:

They were working on some "tome of storytelling" for the holidays using some "magical tools" that were spirited away from them. They intend to continue looking for tools to craft that thing.

I don't know that this is something having to do with 5e. Maybe, but the description of a "tome of storytelling" leads me to the idea that it's more about inspirational material or somesuch? Trapdoor has a history of e-pub stuff (adds in e-books and the like). Hard to say what that is, but it doesn't seem tethered to gameplay, necessarily.

But that's all tea leaves. Not sure what to make out of "Newtonian the rogue," but that might be a hint, too.

Certainly curious at any rate!

Newtonian is Evan Newton, one of the Trapdoor team. The tome is the software. The tools are the game rules. The tools were taken by someone who lives near the coast. Now they need new tools to make their tome.

It's not really very cryptic. It's more just saying what happened and what they have in mind.

Well more wild speculation-- Newton's third law (colloquial): for every action there is am equal and opposite reaction. Once again, could be a Pathfinder reference.

But again, just guessing. Which is perhaps their purpose-- to keep some buzz going.

I'll agree however that if it isn't useful for 5e then it won't be of much use to me. I do of course wish the company well either way. And it hurts me not at all to check in till their plan becomes clear.

Maybe it will be a platform for running adventures allowing people to import info regardless of system? Another random thought.

we expect them to put out a complicated digital platform for RPGs when they can't even manage to write a coherent blog post amid serious speculation (from potential customers) as to the future of their entire company?

i'm not holding my breath for this one, guys.

also, is the site unusably slow for anyone else? at this point i feel it'd be faster for us to just mail our posts to Morrus using stamps and paper.
