Dwarven Stronghold - a community effort

Okay, just to let you all know, RL got interesting, so I may not be able to post my work on the Government/Political stuff quite as soon as I hoped. I just wanted to let you all know that I am working on it and hope to put something up for review later in the week.

Also, I am trying to compile an updated list of who expressed interest in working on what section, I will post that information later today, and in cases where we have multiple people wanting to work on one area, I may see if anyone's interested in being a Unit coordinator for that particular group.

since we're all doing this on our own time, remember that my focus here is that it is better to be good than fast... we're in no hurry, and I think we will make something excellent!

Keep up the good work!

P.S. Anyone know of a good site with a bunch of Dwarven Names?
(I guess I could track down my Hero Builder's Guide so it would finally get used for something! ;) )

Hi,

From the image of dwarven druids tending stone gardens, I came up with the thought of dwarven monks following the way of the Rock. These dwarfs could be a cross between regular monks and Dwarven defenders. Combining a strong defensive force with a group of dwarfs protecting and gathering knowledge about themselves and the world around them. they could serve as scribes, defenders of libraries, sages and advisors.
(it also makes nice Strong-silent types in PC-groups :) )

Another idea is to organize the dwarfs in neighborhoods or work crews. This also gives militia's a sort of unit structure. It also makes militia's very motivated to defend their part of the stronghold.

Okay one of the things we need to establish to give us some sort of a sense of scale is a population total. Since Dwarves are a longer lived people, their numbers would probably be less than a thriving human settlement... but for this to be as grand as we want it to be it can't be too small...

I was kind of thinking somewhere around 50,000 or so...

Give me your thoughts! :D

I'd actually like to see a single main city (50-75,000), surface outpost (village size?), and five or so peripheral small town-sized settlements to show the kingdom's expansion OUT instead of DOWN (maybe with a tower, a fort, etc for additional cool locations). These would all be handled much like "interesting locations" rather than separate cities/town.

Just a thought.

Perhaps we should just start building a block at a time and let it grow. Then we can take a look at it in the end and say... "Whoa this settlement supports ___ dwarves. Who'd a thunk it."

I'm with Emiricol - say 50,000 - 75,000 dwarves in the main city, with an additional 1,000 or so at the gates, and a half-dozen small villages and forts supporting the area...

Dwarven Religion

I am very glad to have discovered this thread, and I love the idea.

I have several ideas about Dwarven religion.

Are we using the "normal" dwarven pantheon?
If so, do priests worship them separately or as a group?

Stone Druids are a great idea, perhaps they have access to the Stone Domain spells from Oriental Adventures.
What kind of animals would a stone druid have as an animal companion?
bears, bighorn sheep, etc?

Another idea is to have a third religious force within the delve. Seeing as how the separate clans and guilds are important, ancestor worship through Shamans would be another interesting addition to the politics. Shamans are a standard class from Oriental Adventures.

If there is anything people want help with, I would love to help.
Shoot down my ideas if you like.
