Tying a rope off on a nearby tree the heroes make their way down into the pit safely. Only the cleric is slightly rattled but with aid she makes it down also. The pit floor is lined with uneven stones making it somewhat hard to walk on. Had Lucion leap into the pit earlier he could have easily broken an ankle falling here.
Once the party has assembled below they find two tunnels that were clawed into the earthen sides of the pit and lead deeper into the ground. They are around eight feet high and four to five feet wide. Both also appear to has some kind of hardened resin casing lining the walls of the packed earth. The stench coming from both tunnels is strong.
Gathering before the first it is pitch black inside...
GM:
Sorry, I mis-read your post SunGold, I thought you wanted to chop down a tree. Yes there were totally trees within 50ft to tie a rope too. D'oh. Sorry. The rope lowers the DC to 10 and if you aid-another you gain Advantage with this roll
You can't see more then a couple of feet into the tunnels before it goes total darkness. Also you can only go into either single file. Who's going first? Taking any extra precautions?
Magen peers into the darkness with a puzzled look on his face, "You say you can see into that Lucious? I can't and I doubt that anyone else can, which rules out stealth. What if I take the lead with you behind, Shara can provide some light."
OOC:
I think Magen followed by Lucious is our best option, Lucious can see past the radius of light cast by Shara and reach past Magen with his halberd.
Looking at both tunnels, Corwin looks concerned. He says, "I think I should take up the rear, I'm mobile enough to come to the front if there is something that needs... burgling."
Shara lays a hand on Magen's shield, and with a quiet word, bright light spills forth. She glances at the cramped, pitch-black tunnel and then looks back at their leader.
"By the Sun-Father's grace, none of us faces the darkness alone." The ring on her finger gives off a momentary glow before returning to normal.
OOC:
Doing a pre-emptive Warding Bond, since Magen's going to be the damage-sink. For the next hour, or until Shara gets KO'd, dismisses it, or they're separated by more than 60 feet:
+1 to Magen's AC
+1 to all of his saves
He has resistance to all damage
Shara takes whatever damage he does

Lucious nods in response to Magen's question. "Clear as day." he responds. "Ready when you are", returning his halberd to his hands and taking his place in line.
The heroes slowly enter the tunnel, with Megan (and his shield) in the lead. It twists back and forth and descends at a fairly steep angle. The light cast upon his shield grants sufficient light for Megan and Lucious right behind, but for those farther back it is hard to see where they are putting their feet and many stumble on the uneven ground.
As the round yet another corner both Megan and Lucious see a thin string or wire stretched across the tunnel about a foot and a half off the ground!!!
Too disarm you need Tools (Thieves) check (if you have the tools) or you can try and cut it with a bladed weapon but you need a Dexterity check at disadvantage to not set off whatever the wire will activate. Not telling the DC
"I totally got this, stand a few feet back." Corwin squishes past everyone to take a look at the tripwire. He gestures and his tools seem to move of their own accord to attempt to disable the tripwire.
OOC:
