E2: The Secret of Gemhold [Patlin Judging]

Nars knows he struck a good blow, but it is clearly not enough. He chews his lip in concentration, keeping the beast between himself and his allies while striking at weak points with his shield and shortsword.
OOC:
Step to flank with either Gorefoot or Rodimus (in that order) and full attack with Felhunter and shield bash. Rolls again assume flanking.
Felhunter (1d20+9=27, 3d6+3=18)
Whoops, missed a d6 - that's a nice problem to have :) one more sneak attack die (1d6=2)
shield bash (1d20+8=23, 1d3+3d6+1=11)
Yay for good attack rolls!

OOC: OK. I believe we're 'slowed,' & unlike some of you, I have to look that one up. Here's what it says:

A slowed creature can take only a single move action or standard action each turn, but not both (nor may it take full-round actions). Additionally, it takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls, AC, and Reflex saves. A slowed creature moves at half its normal speed (round down to the next 5-foot increment),

IC: Percy feels safe enough at this point, with her friends jumping all over the creature. She figures she'll hit it one more time though, with a little more "Purple Fire!"

OOC: Percy's rolls: to overcome SR 26; dmg 11 You go girl!

"What is happening, I still feel sleepy. Are we dreaming? Hey, that's blood, no one is suppose to bleed ina dream..." Ridik will cast his bless spell.

[Round 3]

Percy casts magic missile. The three tiny magenta missiles slam into the creature again.

Nezrak's sword drawn he moves forward ready to attack, but with his movements slowed he is only able to step into position.

The drake moves back away from Rodimus and out of the flank. It turns towards Nars and tries to tear him to pieces with it's claws and bite. All three hit, though Nars is able to avoid any of the harmful affects of the creature's poison.

Rodimus steps up 5ft to try and wrestle the creature. While he is able to grab hold, he is unable to fully grapple with it.

Nars backs up 5ft placing the creature in a flanking position with Rodimus again and scores two more gigantic hits.

Ridik wakes up and casts bless.

Gorefoot charges and inflicts a great wound with his greatsword. Greatly weakened from the battle the creature collapses to the ground dead.

[~end~]

[sblock=ooc]Man my poor ambush drake, with rolls like that it was not long for this world.
Damage Recap:
Percy 38/45
Nars 28/43
Ambush Drake 73dmg[/sblock]

"Whew." Percy is greatly relieved to see the Drake fall. She then rushes over to Nars to inspect his wounds.

"You poor dear. It was very brave of you to attract its attention. And nice work with your weapons. You are a tough dwarf."

"It's a shame we were all woken up. But I'm fine, really. I can continue my watch, and you all can go back to bed
."

OOC: Spells remaining:
0: 6 5. Light spell in effect for hour.
1: 8 5. Mage armor in effect for another 6 hours.
2: 6
3: 4

Gorefoot yanks his blade free from the creature, and nods to Rodimus and then Nars. He goes back to his bedroll and cleans his blade, unable to immediately go back to sleep.

"Already dead? Oh well, waste one of my mistress gift." tells Ridik as he appraoch the creature. "Sorry, I was still a bit asleep, I shouldn't have written so late. I'll think about it next time... anyone know what it is? And what it is doing here? I mean, it is not a coyote. I doubt it is the kind of creature we can meet usually in these region. I must tell I am not familiar with the aniamls who lives here." Ridk look at the others as he asks his questions. He stop a moment and look at Nars wound. "That looks bad. Let me help." The small goblin lay his hand on the wound and the burn fade away (OOC: Converted doom healed 10 hp). "Better, it should heal quickly now."

[sblock=Knowledge (arcana) DC 15]This creature is an ambush drake, a rare plains hunter distantly related to dragonkind. It is far more of a beast than it's larger cousins.[sblock=DC 20]The ambush drake is a night hunter, able to see in the dark, track by scent, and stalk its prey across miles of open terrain.[sblock=DC 25]With debilitating poison and a breath that slows its opponents, the drake often hunts groups of prey. It freezes the group and drags one away to eat in its lair.[/sblock][/sblock][/sblock]

The big draconic creature lies where it fell warding off any further interruptions that night. By the end of Percy's watch, the grey light of pre-dawn illuminates the group camped rather close to the large predator. In the morning spells are recovered (so Ridik can heal more that night if he wants to) and the group is ready to set out again. Continuing north? or is there anything else that you want to do about the drake?

Ridik scratch his head while inspecting the creature, but is unable to remember anything about that creature. He must tell he is more familiar with creatures that live near his monastery in teh mountin, so it doesn't surprise him. He return to his blanket and take out his book. He quickly write down a decription of the creature and the ability of it, as his companion has seen (a bit frustrated to be unable to recall himself as he was half asleep) before going back to sleep.
