Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

So we know that there are going to be five revised species, so what do folks think they will be? Changelings, Kalashtar, Khoravar, Shifters, and Warforged seem a safe bet for inclusion, but I'm surprised that this means we won't get Goblinoids given how core they are to the setting. Thoughts?

Yeah, those 5 are confirmed. We already have playable Govlinoids in Monsters of the Multiverse, at least, though I wouldn't be surprised of they get revisited sooner rather than later.

An Eberron book would have been my first bet for revised Goblinoids, but the early ad copy for Forge said only those five. So my second guess is the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor next year, given how much they seem to feature in that setting and the strong push to make them more distinctly fey in nature.

Found this art on D&D Beyond... is that a shifter? Or is it something else I don't know about?
This is a shifter, specifically it is the same character seen in the Artillerist preview page. They wear the same exact outfit with the same facial markings, so this is her shifted form.

Yeah, goblinoid PCs are a general thing now, not specific to Eberron. If there is a new "general" book they might be updated in that.

Eberron goblinoids are different to the point that they even have their own names for themselves
Goblins were called golin'dar, meaning "quick people". "Golin" in goblin language translates to "quick," referring to both speed and intelligence.
Hobgoblins were called ghaal'dar, meaning "mighty people". "Ghaal" translates to "mighty," with connotations of prowess in battle.
Bugbears were called guul'dar, meaning "strong people". "Guul" translates to "strong".

I could easily see the goblinoids being reworked in the book.

They aren't going to be updated that much from Monsters of the Multiverse which was developed around the same time that the 2024 core books were. They already addressed why Goblin PCs are Humanoids and not Fey when they were discussing the MM, so it definitely is a case of them maintaining that Goblin PCs are still Humanoids with the Fey Ancestry trait like PCs Elves are.

I fail to see how the changes to goblins in 5.5 really substantively change anything about eberron. All the retcon implies is that rather than just kind of popping up randomly on the planet of eberron they came to it from one of the planes that has fairies, and then they built their empire. Not really a big change
