EN World City Project: NPC Contest #2... Final Round Ingredients!!!

Thanks ajanders for posting something. Since you're the only one to post anything you advance by default.

WayneLigon... thanks for joining the competition. Sorry to hear you drew a blank on the ingredients. In the future, however, please let us know before the deadline so we can get a replacement in place. As you can see with mirthcard... we're pretty flexible when it comes to time constraints for the contestants... you just have to let us know. Just so you know... you're still welcome to compete in future competitions. No hard feelings from me. :)

Mark the Hammer is now the "official" NPC Contest Cheerleader and Grognard!!! :D :p

Just so everyone is clear... The deadline for Ashon and Winternight is today at 5:46 P.M. EST.

Let me know if you have any questions about the deadline or if you will not be able to make it.

Never read those threads.

Oh, you should. In IronDM the contestants are given a list of ingredients similar to what we got - but generally much harder. They could be like: a wooden pipe, an awakened rabbit, a fire giant wizard, and a forgotten cemetary. You have 24 hours to come up with a complete adventure scenario (focus on plot outline as opposed to stats). The ingredients have to be central to the scenario. The judging is brutal and every aspect of the scenarios are torn apart and scoured for flaws. Generally, there is one IronDM contest per season. Winners get the right to put IronDM Winner in their sig.

IronDM is sort of the granddaddy of all these contests. IronNPC is probably the father of this one. There's also alsih2o's Ceramic DM contest, which is fun to watch but not as brutal as IronDM (the pun is both that ceramic is not as hard as Iron, but also alsih2o is the chemical formula for clay or ceramic).

Iron and clay

Funny. My brother took his masters in materials science with an emphasis in industrial ceramics. Sometimes I try to read his textbooks.
If I understand things correctly, numbers of ceramics are considerably harder than iron.
I think that applies to the Ceramic DM contest as well.
I can usually figure out how to get most of the elements into an Iron DM adventure given a week or so, but the pictures bring me to a grinding halt.

Oh, and Merak, none of this is ever wasted. The joy of computers, blogs, and string-text searches mean I can keep ideas filed for years until they come to maturity. I just have to get some and engage in editing.
Oh, and I'm stealing Jared Krauss. The line "When you're a paranoid, good fences make good neighbors. Actually, they make the best neighbors." is too good to pass up.

Now that I'm a judge and not a contestant, you can expect the Ceramic DM to get much, much more brutal :D

I agree... those competitions are great fun... and much more difficult than what we have here. 24 hours is tough... and the ingredients are generally more difficult than anything we've produced thus far. I've thought of nicknaming this NPC contest as "IdiomNPC"... paying homage to the IronDM/NPC history... and also pointing to the phrases and cliches that are central to our ingredients list.
