Yikes. One good option, one so-so option, and nine bad options! I think we can figure out where your feelings lie! :)

Hmm. Good point.

But I voted for "slightly pretentious but I like it." After seeing the umpteenth poster get verbally pistolwhipped for not understanding the EL rules, I thought I'd find out what the big draw is...whether anyone feels a "bad vibe."

And really...with an option like #1, what else do you need? ;)

You know, something more constructive than a heavily negative poll (which we've been getting a lot of lately ... ) might be to alert a mod to inappropriate, 'pistol-whipping' posts, or perhaps speaking up yourself in the thread to counteract the negativity.

Yes, another good point...perhaps the question should have been, "Do you get a bad vibe from EN World?" :)

I think it's a testament to EN World and its fine Administrator and Moderators that an overwhelming majority (so far) have chosen the first option. It's not the poll that's negative; there's just a chance that the results will be. And that doesn't seem to be happening, which is good!

As for Reporting a Post...also true, but it seems to me, IME, IMO, that off-topic or humorous posts have more chance of attracting moderator-intervention than simple nastiness.

And the word nastiness isn't even accurate...it's just more of an attitude expressed in a given post. You know: people who take the time to post a detailed answer yet also manage to convey their contempt for the original poster; people who take the time to read a whole thread whose topic they've read before, and then rail against the original poster for "wasting our time;" etc.

Been seeing a lot of this lately... :(

Salutations,

One thing I try to keep in mind as a poster and a reader is that tone does not carry very well in text- so something a poster might mean as playful sarcasm/wit is taken by a reader as an attack.

However, I know have been quite snotty in the past- though I usually (hopefully) apologize after my fuse fizzles.

I think this is one of the friendlier message boards out there, and am very grateful for it.

Respectfully submitted,
FD

I chose the second option. I do like ENWorld a bunch. This is the only message board I read EVERY day. And I generally read every post in the general forum and Fight Club and poke around some of the others. I think people can be slightly pretentious, but I don't blame the boards or a community at large, but rather the individual. Maybe the respondant was in a bad mood, maybe he IS sick of seeing the same question for the umpteenth time (BTW if you do fall in that category, just remember not everyone reads every thread every day and it's quicker to make a new post than sift through the over 100 pages of old threads). And, I'd like to add that every message board I have ever seen has it's share of jerks. That's because they are allowed to expres their opinion, and everyone knows that opinions are like something grandma won't appreciate me saying, in that everyone has one. So far ENWorld is the best place I have found for D&D community information, and I like it.
