Engel - Anyone know anything about this?

Aside from that its about a post-apoalyptic Earth with heavy religious themes, I don't know that much about it. I do know that Combat is exceedingly deadly in the game, and that makes it a good game for the occasional meat grinder session.

I purchased Engel 3 days ago.

It is set in the 27th century. A disease, supposedly from . . . was it Saudi? . . biological weapons decimated the population in the 21st century. And again 30 years later. And twice again after that. However, pre-adolecents were somehow immune to the disease. After the disease had run it's course, only the children were left.

And then came the Second Flood. The Infernos, huge columns of flame that slowly move across the earth, traveled across the poles, melting the caps and drastically raising sea level. The climate has been permanently changed: it is now perpetually overcast, and almost always warm, humid, and raining.

The Infernos leave behind the Brandlands, lands coated in billowing, acid smoke that never dissipates. And out of the Brandlands come the Dreamseed, the Children of Satan, insectoid creatures that ravage and terror. If it were not from God's warriors, the Engel, humanity would have been overrun by these horrific beasts of the Lord of the Flies.

There are two main styles of art in the books: cupid-ish angel pictures which, IMHO, kinda suck, and then proud, nobal Engel warriors and hard laboring, steadfast peasants, etc., which is pretty good. But that's just me. Now, more on the Engel.

MAJOR SPOILORS IF YOU READ ON!!!

The players protray the Engel, sexless, winged children, their bodies scrawled all over with the tattooes that grant them their divine powers. They sprung from the will of the lord.

Or did they?

No. The Angelitic Churge demands a tithe, part of which is children. The children undergo genetic manipulation and surgery, a cocktail of powerful drugs, and have tattooes of biocybernetic ink inscrawled all over their body. Wings are implanted into their shoulders (there's a section in the book prooving that their shoulder muscles are strong enough to grant them flight), and the tattooes let them harness electrical energy to do some pretty funky stuff. You know, throw around energy blasts, raise the dead, etc.

The five orders of Engel (german for Angel, it's a translated game. Aside: the translation is quite evident. In many of the tables, they forgot to turn commas into periods, and sometimes use the metric and royal systems interchangably. The editing ain't so good.) are the Raphaelites (benevolent healers), Urielites (Forerunners of the Lord), Gabrielites (righteous warriors of God), Ramielites (Learned scholars [oh, and they can SEE INSIDE YOUR HEAD!]), and Michaelites (leaders of the Engel). There are 32extinct orders: the Raguelites (their Himmel in scandonavia was overrun by an Inferno, they were the keepers of technology), Samielites (who all died defending their Himmel). The eighth order, Sarielites, are wingless engel who raise their voices in song to do some kick-ass stuff, but aren't for the PCs.

And . . . yeah, well, that's about it. :)
