Enhanced Resistive Formula: Absurdly OP?

Oh, agreed. My sarcasm was perhaps not clear enough :) Having a disease, especially one that can outright kill you, potentially better or worsen every time you take a short rest is ludicrous.

I could totally see a curse or effect that would steal your encounter powers triggering on short rests, but that's within the bounds of the short rest framework.

Yeah. . .he was adapting an adventure path from 3.5, and having a tough time of it. Not being a seasoned or experienced 4e DM he was modeling everything after disease, like ability drain, poisons, and diseases. Nobody said anything, even the more experienced players, I think just to keep the mood light (criticism and the like can sometimes backfire? I'm not sure about other folk's motivations, but that was surely mine).

No real serious mistakes were made, but that one session sticks out for its silliness. It just hammers home the point - *I am not allowed to play casters, ever*

Yeah, generally you want to just run with it and talk to the DM after and be like 'This thing seemed kinda off, maybe...'

Yeah, that happens to me all the time. I really dislike giving rules advice when I'm playing unless it's crystal clear. But, it still happens regularly that people (DM included) ask how something works - and often enough, the answer is fuzzy enough that that question really can only be answered by the DM, since it depends on balance - and that means injection a totally immersion-destroying discussion about balance in the middle of roleplaying :-(.

Anyway, that's why I'm a little touchy on dubious mechanics. It's one thing to see them as DM, laugh, and fix em; it's another thing to encounter them as player, and being forced mid-gaming to distinguish between your character's motivation to succeed and the needs of game balance.

Don't knock it. I got a wand of create water and a wand of endure elements last session (no, I don't have a clue how they work. I don't think the DM does, either, and plan to abuse that to the best of my ability) and the bard still has a stack of 3E scrolls in his pack...

Wow. . .I totally laughed out loud, and I'm sure my coworkers wonder what's up.

So like. . .a wand with charges and stuff? And here people are worrying about this silly feat, at least their DM can stick with an edition....
