Well, that was fun

It's that time of year again!

"What time?", I hear you cry.

"The time of year when we choose the ENnies judges for 2003, of course!" comes my knowingly excited reply.

So, folks, if you want to be an ENnies judge this year, this is the thread where you campaign to everyone and try to win their votes.

Rules

1) Judges must have been EN World members for 3 months or more.

2) If you work for, are part of, or own a D20 company, you are not eligible to be a judge.

What you need to do

If you would like to be an ENnies judge this year, you need to post in this thread, explaining to everyone why they should vote for you. This thread will be open for one week only, after which the community will vote for 5 judges.

Please remember that being an ENnies judge is a LOT of work (just ask the previous judges!). You'll have a fairly short period of time during which you will need to read through dozens upon dozens of D20 products so that you can nominate those that you feel are the best in each category. Previous judges will tell you that it's not all fun!

The judges are also required to make certain decisions together about the awards process (category changes and so on), based upon feedback that they receive from fans and from publishers (and believe me, you'll get more feedback than you can stomach!)

When and where are the ENnies?

The ENnies will be held at GenCon Indy in July of this year. Exact details will be available nearer the time. It would be preferable (although not required) that the judges all attend Gen Con.

Errr... so what are these "ENnies" things?

The ENnies are the Gen Con EN World D20 System Awards, held annually at Gen Con Game Fair. For more information, check out the web page for last year's ENnies.

Well, I'd love to be considered for a third time.

I was part of the original ENnie Judging comittee (where the ceremony was E-Hosted by Gary Gygax) and part of last year's group, where the contest became the Gen Con awards!

I think I didn't screw anything up too badly the last two times, and I would love the opportunity to give it another go :)

Oh, and I will be attending Gen Con (last year was that much fun :))

Actually, it is pretty fun. But it's also hard, serious work with a crazy (and usually "getting crazier") deadline.

Be warned:)

Well, let's give it a shot... Can't succeed if I don't try, right? Who knows, maybe I'll actually get to be the other judge who isn't Morrus, Teflon Billy or Eric Noah.

So, I've been a boards member for... a while. I was around for the previous incarnation of the boards, that much I'm sure. Beyond that, my memory is clouded by caffeine and polyhedrals. Been playing D&D since it came out, AD&D 2E for a year before that, and various other RPGs, CCGs, and miniature games since third grade. I have been an op (a moderator) in EN World's chatroom (#dnd3e) since last October.

As many friends and acquaintances will gladly testify, I have no life. At all. So, if nothing else, I will have plenty of free time to devote to reading d20 products.

I should be able to attend GenCon. There is still an element of uncertainty to this, but logistics, schedules, and funding are being worked out.

What the heck...it gives me one more good reason in explaining to my girlfriend why I need to leave for 4 days in July, travel 8+ hours. then hang with a bunch of eccentric people who play even more eccentric games.

I've been a regular on EN World for over 2 years. I have also
been gaming in some fashion since about age 8 (that was 1984). I have seen all manner of CCGs and RPGs come and go, having received my fair share of "Oh geez, you have -that- game" remarks when people look at my gaming collection.

I mean, seriously, how was I supposed to know that "Extreme Vengeance", a game based on the cheesiest aspects of action movies wouldn't be the next D&D 3e?

Need I mention the subtle mythic qualities of the d100 zocchihedron.

*edit* Woah...I was reading EN's latest scoop on the magnitude of work involved...erm, I'd like graciously bow out at this juncture.

I'm in

I don't know about going to GenCon this year, but I would like the opportunity to become a EN Judge and here is why.

I love gaming, the hobby, and everything about it. I don't mind putting in a few hours to come up with a good adventure for a group of my friends, only for them to take a left turn and leave the rest hanging and them seeing my face as I look at them in shock. I don't mind the reading involved in reading rpg books, I got plenty of time (student at college with no job) and it would be a good challenge.

I was also a member of the original board set up by Eric Noah and I am a avid d20 gamer since the incarnation of 3rd edition D&D.

So, my name is in the hat and we shall see what happens. Good luck to all who does post for it, and let the fairest person win.

Ten Big Freekin Reasons BigFreekinGoblinoid should be an ENnie judge:

1. I have Played D&D since 1979

2. I'm a DM and a Player in seperate ACTIVE Campaign's, and thus can analyze from both perspectives

3. I come to ENWorld for the primary purpose of researching and discussing new & upcoming products

4. I spend over 10 hours/week reading d20 material outside of playing

5. As a sourcebook-aholic, I probably have already read/used a good portion of the material anyway

6. Aside from spending an average of $120/month for print books, I also buy ESD's & .pdf's

7. My RPGA Member number is #17 ( OK, actually, my newer # is 1004821 )

8. My FLGS's ask MY advice on product ordering!

9. I'd consider it an honor to represent your book nominations with respect, open-mindedness and dilligence

10. I'm a Virgo :D

edit:

After reading the further explanations in the other thread: If chosen, I'd be glad to volunteer for being the distribution hub for the material. I work from an office in my home, and am very close to the post office.

Oh yeah:

11. Ala Teflon Billy's Haiku contest, I will plan on sharing the swag with the ENWorld messageboard community!

This year I will throw my hat into the ring.

I run Call of the Horn - a Wheel of Time RPG site and if I can read all of those books I can read the ENNie submissions. :)

I have been around for a while, through several incarnations of the boards.

Been playing for 15+ years.

Post count does not matter.

And it would be very cool to be able to work with all of the folks who I know will be on the panel.

well, i too would like to throw my hat into the ring. who am i, you ask. i'm an american poet and english teacher living in japan [and thus can add a flair of trans-pacific internationalism to the process] who spends far too much time [probably averaging 3-4 hours per day] keeping abreast of all the new information regarding my favorite pastime via this and other wonderful websites. time that i should, by rights, be dedicating to writing and studying. be that as it may.

as a literary critic by training, my faculties for discerning true merit are nonpareil. i've been with the enworld site since the early days of eric's reign. i've been with d&d through all of its incarnations for over 20 years.

my work commitments are quite limited [to about 15 or 20 hours per week, at most], so i have ample time to dedicate to reading the material.

I'd love to be considered this year, and here's why:

** I'm not just an enthusiastic RPG hobbyist, I'm also a very vocal and loyal supporter of EN World.
** I've been gaming for just over 20 years, and I'd like the chance to give something back to the games that have given me so much enjoyment.
** In the past year, I've spent an incredibly large amount of time acquiring and reading countless new d20 products from a bevvy of different publishers, in an effort to expand my RPG knowledge base.
** Corresponding with folks like Teflon Billy has left me prepared for the responsibility of being an ENnies Judge, and the corresponding onslaught of material one must evaluate.
** I'm the Holiday Iron DM tournament champ and I'll be at GenCon this year :).
