ENnies and the EN World Gathering in 2003

First, I would like to say that I enjoyed the Ennies and the EN World gathering!!! It was fun to be there with so many of the people I have talked to online, as well as the movers and shakers of the gaming industry.

I thought I would start a thread on how to make next year's Ennies and EN World Gathering even more enjoyable. So, what would make next year's events better? Here are a few of my thoughts.

First, it was a little hard to hear people on stage from my position because of the background noise of people passing by and from an adjacent gaming area. If possible, maybe we should have the Ennies and the EN World Gathering next year in an enclosed room -- maybe one with a stage.

As for the EN World Gathering, I enjoyed it immensely. As I was the one who suggested it, was there any way that I can do more next year. (I went to where the RPGA Network meeting was supposed to be Wednesday night, but it was cancelled.) Fortunately, I stopped by Mystic Eye Games Thursday and was able to pass out several badges.

Good thread, William.

Folks, if I could appeal to you for a sec, we also have a thread about improving the ENnies going on in the Publishers Forum. That thread is more about the "awards" side of it -- the process, who should be allowed to participate, should we have more categories, etc. If you'd post those kinds of comments there that will help keep things together. http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20383

Logistics type stuff that doesn't really impact the publishers, then, can go in this thread.

I vote for more chairs and microphones. :)

Has anyone attended the Origins Awards? What sorts of things did they do differently?

Eric, I agree more chairs and microphones would be a good idea. With an enclosed room, we should be able to here everyone more easily.

(I stood next to a table trying to find a badge I thought was missing. Naturally, someone claimed his badge and I did not notice.)

Maybe we could have some moderators do a quick question and answer session at the next EN World Gathering. Perhaps some people might have suggestions on solving technical problems. or someone may want to become more active in the boards by volunteering as a moderator.

Would we want any sort of organized activity at the EN World Gathering? EN World Trivia perhaps. Or do we have enough talent for a little free entertainment. (Don't look at me. My singing may have inspired the spell Wail of the Banshee.:D )

Possibly, we could try to have an official EN World gaming event apart from the ENnies and the EN World Gathering. Maybe a few people could volunteer to run an adventure. (Leopold did organize a session of the G series. How did that go, Leopold?) Obviously, it might have to be open to the public but we could always have a huge sign for the top 10 reasons to visit www.enworld.org

Reason #1. You will meet some of the best gamers, writers, artists, and human beings on the EN World boards.

Be sure to hit the thread Eric mentioned in the publisher's forum.

The key question is what do you, the EN World members, want.

At the very least there shouldn't be two concession stands RIGHT NEXT TO THE STAGE. People were practically tripping over Hot Italian Beef or whatever it was on my side, and I think for a while we were wrestling with an 18 gallon drum of salsa on the other.

Tell me, Eric. I was half expecting someone to get doused with ketchup or soda from the concession stands.

Maybe a banner and some theme music for the stage.

Theme music! I love it. A different song for each category or person winning or something.

Hmm, when I come out on stage I want to hear either "Imperial March" from Empire Strikes Back, or "I Wish I Was A Little Bit Taller" by Ski Lo.

You know what's funny, I was joking with Kara that I wished I knew how to play guitar. I'd have loved to have seen the looks on your faces when I pulled it out and started singing that new Enterprise themesong...

We could also have a huge mock up of a d20 as a stage prop.

Maybe also a slide show of what the ENnies are, a mention of the board, and how everything is judged. (We could have fun with this one.)

I like the idea of gaming sessions after the ENnies, perhaps you could have sign-up sheets at a table, with slots for the next day. Take over a gaming room with lots of tables. If it could be obtained, a projector would be cool with a cover shot for each product (or perhaps only the winners). A seperate room would definately be good, with a stage... perhaps if enough interest can be garnished, something like the Plankton Theater would be appropriate (if they have such a facility, or a bit smaller, in Indianapolis). Posters up around the Con trying to draw more people in. Seats specifically reserved up in front for the publishers.

I had a lot of fun meeting and talking with you guys, and I'd like to do it again next year!

Fayredeth,

It was good to have you there. Maybe it would be better to think about scheduling a gaming event here at EN World and finding a few people to run it. (Let me know if you need any more devious DMing ideas. Sorry, Trevalon.)

Eric, I should tell you that some people had no idea where the ENnies were. We need to publicize it a bit more. It should be easy to create a few posters and fliers.

I'm still working a bit more on this in my head. It might be better to do more than just the one gathering. Once you lose someone, it's almost impossible to find them again. (Hey Urbanmech!)

So maybe the big gathering after the ENnies, but also a couple of little optional "meet here for lunch at 12:30" type things.
