It was my understanding that Ryan was a Northwestern graduate, married with one child, and living on the North Shore of Chicago when she caught her break. Subsequently, ditched her hubby in favor of (etc.)

Is my understanding of her situation not accurate?

You read a lot of stories about how someone goes out West and winds up dumping their old life, or as much of that as they can or they feel is baggage getting in the way of their career...

To keep this post on topic:

I like Enterprise; it does have some continuity issues with the other series, but I'm not bothered too much by it. I really like the fact that Archer doesn't win every fight, that he sometimes seems indecisive, and that in the show we see some little details about starship life, things you never saw or heard about in the other shows (ex, Trip (?) talking about lavatories in the episode where they hide in the nacelle).

I'm not a fan of the original series. Can't really stand it: Kirk winning every fistfight, attractive to all alien species of women? Yeah right. I will admit I haven't watched all the episodes of TOS, but the few dozen or so I have seen are always the same.

So Enterprise brings a fresh new perspective on the exploration thing. For me anyway. And I love the theme song. Can't understand why anyone complained about that.

I know from Deep Space Nine:
Producers where Rick Berman and Micheal Piller, the former more responsible for script things...
I think this is the same for Voyager and Enterprise, so what is this Brannon Braga guy all about?

Here's a sort of Who's Who list for Star Trek. It's probably not totally comprehensive, but it should cover most of the basics. Some of my fact might be off, I'm dredging most of this from memory. If anyone has anything to add to it or corrections to make, feel free.

Gene Roddenberry: created Star Trek. I trust everyone in this thread knows who he is?

The Original Series

Gene L. Coon: One of the producers during at least the first and second season. He established a lot of basic foundations of the Star Trek universe, including the Kirk-Spock-McCoy relationship, as well as concepts like the PD. I believe he's been dead for years.

D.C. Fontana: She edited the scripts or something on TOS and wrote a number of episodes for the series. Many of them were important character episodes like "Journey to Babel". I believe she also worked on some of the development of TNG. She also helped to establish a lot of the basics of Star Trek. She hasn't done anything in Star Trek for quite a while, I believe.

Next Generation

Rick Berman: Started as one of the producers from the early days of TNG. Succeeded Roddenberry as head of the Trek franchise after he died. Involved in the development of every Trek series since TNG.

Deep Space Nine

Michael Pillar: First started as a writer around the third season or so of TNG. He developed DS9 with Berman and Voyager with Berman and Jeri Taylor. Eventually left Star Trek. I'm not sure when , but I think might have been around season 4 or so of DS9

Ira Steven Behr: Also started out during TNG around season 4 or so I think. He developed a lot of the Ferengi culture as seen on DS9, including the Rules of Aquisition. He eventually became co-executive producer of the show with Berman after Pillar left, and I get the impression he was responsible for some of the "cooler" ideas that pooped up in the later episodes of DS9.

Star Trek Voyager

Jeri Taylor: Also started out during TNG, around the same time Behr did I think. She's most well known for developng Voyager.

Brannon Braga: Like all the others executive producers since Berman, he first started out in TNG, but later than the others, I think he wasn't around until the 5th season or so. He became executive producer of Voyager after Pillar and Taylor left. He also developed Enterprise with Berman.

Rick Berman is the head of the franchise, the successor to the late "Great Bird of the Galaxy" Gene Roddenberry.

Brannon Braga is the show's executive producers of VOY and ENT. Prior to that, he was a gifted screenwriter.

Basically it seems to be more a matter of seniority than anything else.

A friend of mine got a "TNG - 10th Anniversary" book, (I forget what it was called exactly).

Some of you may have this. It details almost every single episode, and even up to First Contact, I believe. It has a forward by Rick Berman, and even has info on the main people in the franchise. I don't have it on me, but I'll see if I can get it from him.

Yeah, but if your seniority status is not backed up by churning great Trek episode to keep your current fans from dismissing the series and turning away from the franchise ... in the entertainment industry, you should be out.

If ya drive away the fan base maybe you should look to see what the problem is rather than turn out more crap and drive more away. Then over charge for things that people wouldn't buy any.....never mind this could be considered a rant I promised I wouldn't do that again. I could be applied to other things rather than just Trek...

Like at where I work. My boss has been here for a while, but he's got little (if all) managerial skills. He's a good guy, but not a great boss.

Voyager-Defiant+Enterprise-ENTERPRISE=2151

well, like this:

74656-74205+1701-01=2151

You might be saying, "so?"

But if you see it, 2151 is the year of ENTERPRISE NX-01's first launch.
