Here's what they're rerunning this week... :)

I only have one thing to add; it was something I noticed the first time I saw the episode. These Klingons are carrying rusty, cruddy-looking hand weapons. When I saw that, I was reminded of the TNG episode when Worf first meets his son, shows him the family bat'leh (or however it's spelled). He says something like, "Make it a part of your hand, a part of your arm, a part of you". Taking that line into account, what does it say about a bunch of scruffy Klingons carrying those rusty, cruddy, crappy-looking bat'lehs into battle? I'd say these guys are a bunch of low-life Klingons who have no real honor, and prey on these deuterium miners 'cause real warriors would kick their asses. :)

I agree, the klingons in this ep are clearly presented as low-grade scavengers, which also explains why they're so easy to intimidate.

Re the bat'leh, in the original STNG eps it appeared to be an archaic part of klingon cultural heritage - surely no sane warrior would rely on a blade in battle against phasers?! In later eps the klingons appeared to devolve so that the bat'leh became the standard front line combat weapon and klingons wear combat armour _all the time_.

Still Klingons in the eyes of the Empire, of course, but definitely low on the ladder. Good spot. :)

Maybe they thought:
"hey, we have these cool transporters that can get us anywhere, and these cool sensors the federation guys gave us during technical exchange programs, maybe we just beam where our enemies are, directly behind them, and hack them down with our Bat`leths.
If they want to use their Phasers, Intervallers, Disruptors or whatever else they have, they provoke an Attack of Oppertunity, and with our 1d12+1.5xStrength Modifier of damage we should be able to hack down most mooks in the first round of combat. And with our amount of hp thanks to our racial Constitution Modifier we should survive the first phaser hit. Oh, and let`s not forget our Rage Bonus... And if we sing a few songs before entering battle, the morale bonus might even help more. An inspirational Speech of our Captain will add still a few points..."
(you know: Scan, Buff, Teleport, Destroy)

Well, maybe that is not the real answer, I believe the Startrek Roleplaying Game has no AOOs :)
