This week's first new episode in what seems like at least a month was really really good. The Andorians (led by Jeffrey Combs) are back, this time to "help" the "pink skins" with their problem of obtaining the Xindi super weapon prototype. Of course, the Andorians really only want to steal it for themselves, so they can use it to win their Cold War against the Vulcans! We see the growing, grudging respect Combs has for Archer, and that he would prefer an alliance between earth and Andoria over screwing them over... feelings his superiors don't share, despite the aid Archer did them in the prior show vs. the Vulcans. It was great seeing the Andorians (esp. Combs reprising his role, and the female Andorian cutie tactical officer) again, and getting some more "normal" action.
I think Enterprise totally missed the boat with their Temporal Cold War plot line... they should have made it more like the original Star Trek, only we get to see the "first contact" (not always friendly) with the various races that will make up the Federation and concentrate on cool conflicts like the one between the Andorians and Vulcans. Lots of shotgun diplomacy, hot babes, monsters, phasers, racial posturing, etc. "Enterprise" could have been so much more, but it is hamstrung by these lame time travel plots, weird hallucination episodes, political correctness and a pretty mediocre cast of regulars.
Has it been canceled? I thought this was the last season because Smallville was crushing it in the ratings...
