With all due respect to your friendship with Rick Berman, I personally am glad it irked him.

Yeah, me, Meyer Lansky, Adolph Hitler and Rick Berman hang together on the weekends. Berman is the unpopular one.

I agree strongly with the person who said that if season 1 of Ent had been like season 4, the show would have been a great success and gone the full 7 seasons.

Well, a lot of us are saying that.

Depending on how well it would have done on UPN. After all, the network began catering to a demographic that wasn't really interested in shows like Star Trek, and it really didn't fit in with the rest of their programming. The decision of the WB to move Smallville opposite of Enterprise, and then UPN's brainless decision to move it to Friday nights when Sci-Fi has a huge programming block also helped to seal Enterprise's fate.

Yeah, but... there's also the rest-of-world market, which is increasingly important for small shows like this IMO. Battlestar Galactica's success on Sky One in the UK (where it aired prior to US airing) was a definite factor in the series being renewed, I think. Enterprise was equally promoted, in a good slot etc, but... if it sucks, it sucks. Now it doesn't suck.
