epic monsters

First Post
I just finished reading the description of the epic-level handbook, and was wondering: Is anyone else somewhat upset by the concept of uber-epic monsters? I mean, having epic-level monsters that are so insanely powerful is kind of upseting because then the Tarrasque seems like a wussy by comparison. And the Tarrasque is supposed to be like the ultimate bad @$$ monster. Having stuff that can just whipe the floor with it takes some of the fun out of the whole idea of the Tarrasque. Let me know what you all think.

I'm thinking that the idea of someone calling himself "Drizzit" [sic] complaining about uber monsters is rather funny, actually. :)

Well, if the PCs can handle the epic-monsters, they probably already killed the Tarrasque.

They gotta have something to do in their spare time.

I hate the Tarrasque. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Singular, unique creatures of impossible power do NOT belong in a book of monsters. The space would have been much better used by including bullywugs. If I want an insane-powerful unique creature, trust me to make it myself.

If there was no Tarrasque in the Monster Manual, would you have any problem with the epic-level monsters?

Myself, I'm not going to be playing epic-level. I can barely stand above 10th level. I just needed to comment, that's all.

Well, considering that the Tarrasque doesn't even have the highest CR in the MM, I see it as being fairly silly to call the the ultimate monster. I personally think it was included as a nod to dragons. In the first two editions they were gimpy. Now they can get meaner than the Tarrasque himself.

Not at all. See, I have this book called Pawns, from an old capsystem game called Primal Order. The Tarrasque was a wuss compared to some of those bad boys. You have to remember, the Tarrasque is epic to normal characters but to Epic Level character's, he's just another punk orc. :p

yea, i know he's probably gotten kinda outdated by epic levels, but there's still just something classic about him that seems a shame to do away with. at the very least, it should turn out that he's a baby of his race, cursed with never aging, dropped off by his parents on the prime material plane. now, add his parents to the epic level monster section *grins evilly at the prospect of even more epic level, epic level creatures*

So what I'm not supposed to be impressed by things like Great Wyrms, Force Dragons or even the now classic Demi-lich?! Come on! Epic level monsters are FUN and even if they make the tarrasque seem dated, he was already that BEFORE the advent of 2nd edition, in my book. I MUCH perferred fighting Demon Princes, Arch Devils and the occasion god avatar in 2nd than I did the Tarrasque. Why? Cause while I COULD kill, I didn't see the point in trying. It didn't advance my XP. ;)

Makes me wonder why somebody epic hasn't yet killed the all-devouring punk.

But then I remember hong's first rule and forget all about it.
