Epic Skills Problem

Also, even Spic Skill uses are not game breakers. I've never have a high skill boinus disrupt the balance of my game. Even allowing items of +30 for 10th level characters, things always worked well.

Some of them may be, especially the spellcraft DCs for epic spells.
Would you let your 10th level WIZ cast 9th level spells? Thats what the DC is for, to set the "level" of epic spells.

But to access Epic Spells you need the feat, Epic Spellcasting. To gain that feat you need 24 ranks in spellcraft, knowleedge (arcana, religion or nature) and the ability to cast 9th level spells. So, no one at tenth level, even with +500 to spellcraft, could gain any Epic Spells.

Would you let me run over your face with my car? Well, there's your answer. A 10th level Wizard can't cast a 9th level spell because he doesn't even have the spell slots available. Sure, he could cast it off a scroll, but wow, that's a lot of scrolls. Besides, if a 10th level Wizard in your game is casting 9th level spells from scrolls, and it has become a problem, what genius gave him those scrolls in the first place? I know they didn't come from rolling up treasure for an EL 10 encounter.

To be honest, I think that any item that gives bonuses to a skill (except maybe for +5 or so) is ridiculously cheap and unbalancing.
Why? To get that +100 bonus, the item creator would have to spend the xp, but also would need 50+ ranks in the skill. I don't have my DMG in front of me, but I'm positive that Boots of Spring and Striding have a prereq of 5 ranks in Jump to get that +10 bonus.

The item creator doesn't require the ranks at all. He simply needs access to a spell that grants the bonus. The Boots of Striding and Springing require the Jump spell, not ranks in jump. Some people house rule that the creator needs ranks in the skill, but I don't.

There should be some limit on skill bonuses. I think maybe something like caster level times two or something like that. I would not require ranks in the skill though. Skill points are already to hard to come by.

You forgot to add, IMC. I don't need to impose a limit on skill bonuses in my games at all. :)

No I didn't. :D I'm really surprised that there is not prerequites on general skill bonus in magical items. If it's my campaign, yours, or even little Timmy's. One may run a great camapign without it as people have been doing for about two years now. Perhaps I should have said "In my opinion". All I'm really doing is furthering discussion. ;)
