Epic Skills Problem

No. It's just kreynolds. Why?

So a +30 bonus to spellcraft is roughly equivalent to 30 levels of a spellcasting class...

Uhh...no. A Wizard with an Intelligence of 18 would get 6 skill points per level. Let's go ahead and assume he was an idiot and didn't increase his Intelligence as he leveled. Now, if he were 21st level, he would have earned 144 skill points, 23 of which he can place into Spellcraft, and with his Intelligence modifier, that would net him a +27 bonus to his Spellcraft checks, and that's at 21st level.

Now, if he got a Ring of Spellcraft +30, which is certainly something he can afford, you're looking at a +57 bonus to his Spellcraft check. Know what that means? Even if he wanted too, he couldn't cast a Hellball, no matter how hard he tried. So what's the big deal? So he can cast Dragonstrike. Another epic level caster can just as easily cast Epic Counterspell.

I'm just tryin' to figure out where you're comin' from on this. :)

It would be 24 at 21st level, but the point was did the designers take into account that their barely epic casters are going to have mid-epic spells? We wont know until/unless we have someone whos played at those levels post.

BTW even most deities with those +200 amulets of spellcraft cant get VGoG, so what was the point of including it? DC 419 HA!

Ah. Yes, it would. My mistake.

With the amount of time, money, and XP you have to spend developing an epic spell, no doubt the rest of the party will be at least 1 level, if not more, ahead of the caster. It's just like a magic item. The more you make, the slower you level.

That's true enough.

All of the gods in D&Dg, as well as Faiths and Pantheons, were built independtly from the complete epic level rules. You'll note that none of them have any epic levels whatsoever, so that is why they can't cast any epic level spells. They weren't built for that at all.
