EQ RPG: It's Your World Now...

I for one am very happy at this development.
Perhaps if this goes well then other online games will be made to tabletop.
May be FF11 will eventually be made. I love the Returners and other conversions but an official game would rock.

Ok, I have two questions about this.

First: given the blatent attempts to capitalize off D&D and d20 without actually using the d20 STL and logo...

"100% compatible with the 3rd-edition rules of the world's most popular fantasy tabletop roleplaying system"

eqlogo.gif

and of course the logo with the big red d20 (with the #20 conveniently on top)

... how likely is it that WotC will sue for copyright infringement?

Second: When does Ultima d20 come out? :D

I'd say it depends upon how good EQ: 0-Bit Version is doin'. :)

If this game takes off like I have every reason to expect it will, you could see more happening. Sony's got their fingers in this, and in Final Fantasy, so if this makes them enough dough, maybe they'll consider it.

The same is true for any CRPG out now. If EQ: No Video Card Needed does excellent, we may see a lot of clones. Some may be crap (Yay! Harvest Moon d20!), but some have true potential (Ultima, Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda series).

If anyone wants to work on these as a fan-thingy, I've got space at Videogame d20 for you. :)

Well, I hope SSS is successful in this venture - but, I have my doubts that it will fly. The MMORG culture is vastly different than the tabletop RPG culture, the players are in it for gratification that can't be fulfilled entirely by tabletop rpgs. Still, it's a very cool project I wish them the best of luck. Half a million potential players from the EQ servers is a veritable gold mine waiting to happen.

I wonder if WotC's Star Wars RPG has had a sales boost since the announcement of SW: Galaxies? Something like that would be really hard to track, I'd wager, what with all the other tie-ins out there.

Well, the Pokemon RPG from WOTC sold something like half a million copies...

I'm curious as to how the Diablo 2 did. Granted, it wasn't a standalone like Pokemon or Everquest will be, and it has by far the worst production values of any d20 product in existence (including the Nightshift/Crunchy Frog stuff)

I'm not going to consider getting this until I'm sure I don't have to upgrade my glasses to be able to read the game's supplements...

Oh, man, this is too easy, I better just quit...

Why not make this d20?

Anyone who plays EQ obviously doesn't mind shelling out $$$ every month, so why not force people to buy a PHB too?

I REALLY don't see the advantage to it not being d20.

It is d20...they're just not explicitly saying so. At least not yet, I wonder if their seeing if they can get away with it...
