Equip my soulknife!

I'm playing a gestalt soulknife/fighter (fifth level), and I have a bit of cash to spare. 84,000 gp, to be exact. While I have a few ideas about what to get, I'm not really sure what to get exactly. The items I already have are below.

+2 Breastplate
+1 Amulet of Natural Armor
+3 Ring of Protection
Ring of Shadows
Boots of Speed(doubles my movement, not haste...)
Figurine of Wonderous Power (Bronze Griffon)
Gauntlets of Ogre Power +2

My character is kinda sneaky, but is really the only full-time "tank" of the party. Right now, we're "on vacation", fighting in a gladiatorial arena, but our main agenda is developing a country that is currently under attack by halfling wizards. We're facing walking automatons that True Strike spear attacks, Magic Missle us, and even cast Fireball. I'm planning to Multi into Occult Slayer, an anti-spell caster prc in Complete Warrior.

Some things I want:
Helm of Telepathy (would be helpful for interrogating prisoners)
AC, AC, AC
Something that offered damage reduction would be cool.

Also, while we're playing 3.5, the dm uses 3.0 monsters and damage reduction (20/+2, 30/+3, etc.). As a soulknife, my measly +1 sword can't cut through the DR of alot of creatures we fight, so I need something to get through it. I need a magic effect to make my sword +3 - +5 for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction, but I don't know the formula for something like this.

Well, anybody care to help me out? Any advice would be helpful.

And yea, we know that the rewards are way out of wack with recommended levels, but we don't really care. After all, we're still having fun.

That's a lot of money! Where is a ring of shadows from?

The nice thing about a soulknife is that you don't have to pay for a weapon. If the DM is using 3.0 DR in 3.5, though, either magic fang or the clerical weapon equivalent may temporarily increase the + on your weapons. I'd try to talk the DM into it.

For AC, how about the psionic skin that grants +4 natural armor?

84,000 gp, you say? Might I recommend the Skin of the Proteus? Granted, it's only caster level 7, but it gives you the incredibly awesome ability of Metamorphosis at will. Have fun turning into just about anything 7 HD or less, on demand. Or, you could save up your money/pawn off some of your items and buy the 15th CL version, raising the HD cap to 15 HD. Stone giants are particularly fun to turn into. Not sure about the cost of the 15 HD skin - the formula gives the cost as 120,000, but the formula would put the base item at 56,000, rather than the 84,000 it's at. It's a hefty price, but whatever its true price should be, it's worth it.

Alternatively, the Skin of the Hero might be helpful for getting through DR - it gives you a +3 enhancement bonus to attack rolls (arguably making all attacks +3 for purposes of DR), a +3 Deflection bonus to AC (so you could sell the Ring of Prot and get something else... strict rules say it's worth 18,000, so you could sell it for 9,000 and pick up a +2 weapon in case your DM won't let the skin work against DR), and a +3 bonus to all saving throws.

Alternatively, you could get a Gem of True Seeing. There's no getting around the utility of this item - couple it with a weapon with the Suppression ability, and you'll never have to worry about invisibility, illusions, all that nasty stuff.

It's not core, but by the formulas, a continuous wondrous item that granted the Inertial Barrier power would come out to 56,000 gp - DR 5/-. I'd probably price it higher, just because of how useful that DR is going to be.

Gestalt Fighter/Soulknife means even saves, right? That's pretty nice. I'll throw in the "items to round your character off" method. That would be, get a cloak of protection +3 or more to bring your saves up (especially since your going against wizards) to an even higher level. Then work on getting your ability scores up (boost your con with a +4 or better item or at least get a amulet of natural armor with a +2 or higher. If you don't use that item slot on con, then maybe a shielding amulet to stop magic missiles. If you can optimize like this, I'd say get a mithril full plate +2 instead of the breastplate. That will net you a better armor class in general. One of the great things about psionics is the skill boost items if you want them, and as your not a psi-warrior, you don't have access to the powers that perform those tricks. A +10 bonus to tumble and jump from items could be fun. A backup weapon for dealing with a type of Damage reduction would seem somewhat handy. Perhaps an aligned adamantine/silvered/or cold iron weapon that deals a different type of damage (piercing or bludgeoning) to keep in case it's ever handy. And, once again since your psionic, having a third eye item might be interesting. Lastly, you could be gifted with an item of +x to resist some element (fire or lightning likely).

See if your DM will let you manifest your mindblade with the Sure Striking ability. It's a +1 enhancement bonus that gets treated as +5 for overcoming DR only. Offer to burn a feat on it if that will help.

I never thought I'd be saying this about a human fighter, but I'm far enough behind on feats, I just don't think I could fit in another. Right now I'm working on Cleave, Improved Initiative (for the Occult Slayer), Deep Impact (my rolls have been terrible lately, so touch attacks are a good thing), Leadership (need a healer), and, umm, one or two more that don't come to mind right now.

As far as the DR goes, I'm gonna take Creamsteak's advice and get a backup weapon. An adamantite spiked gauntlet +3, to be exact. The automatons we've been fighting have a hardness of 15-20, so that'll be very helpful there, too.

Done. Didn't even think about that. Silly me.

On the other hand...

This thing is insane! How muck would this little darling cost? I'm not sure that I have access to psionic items in the city I'm in now, but I could foot a teleport if the price is right. Does the skin take up an item slot, like armor or shirt?

I can't afford to drop 56k just yet, but as soon as I can, that baby is mine. Only problem is that if the skin may not be available, I know that a custom item won't be. Hmmm, maybe after a few more bouts...

From a ring of lights? :D
Honestly, I'm not sure where the DM got the ring from, all I know is that it gives the wearer 20% concealment for up to 10 rounds a day.

As an aside, I have to say that one of the great things about playing instead of running, is being surprised at what the DM comes up with. So far I've seen necromantic halflings, the afore mentioned gnomish automatons, some spirit of peace awaking in the river next to our home base, green dragons, gray elves working with said green dragons, a ghostly demiplane inside a mirror, a legendary bear in an arena pit, and a noble child who's showing just a little too much interest in us, all in two sessions.

Whew, gotta catch my breath...

Oh yeah, and seeing the paladin/sorcerer told that maybe he should stay out of the arena, and take up something closer to his skill level, like farming, after dying twice in our first two fights in the pits.

Anyways, I've tentively mapped out what I'm gonna buy, but if anyone has anymore suggestions, let me know. I'm always open for more suggestions.
