Eric Mona says the GSL is nearly ready

In this thread on piazo.com, Eric Mona says:

I'm told the GSL is complete and in review over at Wizards of the Coast, so a lot of the cold, hard facts we need in order to make our decision are imminent (or at least more imminent than they've been at any time in the last 6-8 months).

So hopefully we'll be hearing from the 3rd party companies about their 4e plans soon.

Honestly, what settings would you like to see translated into 4th edition? Some of the settings I love, like Midnight, probably wouldnt work with the general theme of 4e, at least the theme that I've gleened from all the preview material. Likewise, Conan d20 seems a bit too gritty to translate well. I wont hold my breath that either of those settings will get the 4e treatment.

Well, I'd disagree with you about both settings listed above, but what I think I'd really like are either some well done settings in a different genre:

Bas Lag Adventures
Authurian Stuff
Grimm
Caliphate Nights

Or just new settings in general.

Midnight and Conan were a different tone from core 3e too. That was kinda the point of them!

4e can surely have "mods". In fact, I still think that some DMGx will be about altering the tone of D&D, so that variant rules can make D&D "grim & gritty", light fantasy or what you want.

I read over on the Paizo board that Adamant is going to produce a Bas-Lag RPG. Don't know what system yet.

One custom-built for the purpose, I read. So, nothing seen before. At least, nothing precisely the same. RPGs tend to draw upon stuff what's gone before though - it'll be interesting to see what this one draws on.

Ah, this link might be handy.

Caliphate Nights was done as True20. RPGObjects did a lot of Authurian stuff as well. Most of it should be readily portable to 4e.
