Errata on Leap Attack

Umm sorry but that answer is incorrect no matter how you read it.

For Power Attack, sacrificing +6 BAB using a 2-handed weapon gives you +12 damage. So the answer that Leap Attack makes it x3 = +12 is wrong.

So Leap Attack would give either 18 (you only get your orignal BAB again) or +24 (it is 100% of the base Power Attack damage).

If we were talking about 1-handed weapons then +6 BAB yields +6 damage. And Leap Attack would make that +12 (+100% of original).

With the errata on Leap Attack (+100% of bonus from Power Attack) instead of x3, does that mean that if I have a BAB+6 and I am using a 2-handed weapon, and I use it all for Leap Attack, I get +24 damage or +18?

Because the way it is worded goes something like this:

Power Attack you double your penalty (+12 in this example).

Leap Attack you get +100% of the Power Attack Bonus (+24)
You're forgetting the third sentence of the feat: "If you use this tactic with a two-handed weapon, you instead triple the extra damage from power attack." It was not removed in the errata.

In your example "the extra damage from power attack" is 12. Three times twelve is 36.

Most likely the intent was to remove that third sentence, so that you only deal +24 damage.

(See the Complete Warrior errata on the frenzied berserker's supreme power attack. It has the exact same wording and comes with an example: "A 10th-level frenzied berserker deals +100% the normal damage from her use of the Power Attack feat. In other words, when using the Power Attack feat, a frenzied berserker wielding a two-handed weapon gains a +4 bonus on damage rolls (instead of a +2 bonus) for each –1 penalty she applies to her attack rolls.")

To clarify i used an example of sacrificing 4 points of BAB. Customer service said that you would get the usual 2x bonus, for 8 points, and 100% of the BAB you sacrificed, so 8+4=12.

The wording was apparently errated to prevent any confusion that you didnt have to power attack to gain the 3x bonus.

Umm there was no confusion in the original version or the errated version ... you have to Power Attack to get the bonus. And I seriously doubt they mean to say you don't have to Power Attack at all to use Leap Attack since its a pre-requisite and the bonuses are derived from Power Attack.

As to the rest, they're essentially stating that you get only the sacrificed BAB in damage used for the 100% calculation. Which is definately NOT what the feat says.

The feat says "100% of the bonus damage". The bonus damage from Power Attack is equal to your sacrificed BAB for single-handed weapons OR x2 damage for two-handed weapons.

So until they errata their errata they can't justify the answer they gave.

After i pointed out it mentioned bonus damage :

Thank you for contacting us.

Yes, it would be +4 for the leap attack, as it is 100% of your Power Attack damage.

So if its a 2 handed weapon and power attacking for +2 the bonus damage from
power attack will be +4, then +4 for leap attack?

So they went and did a 180 did they?

You know it is Customer Service at Wizards that keeps great forums like EN World in business. How on earth do you pay a support team that doesn't support? Ah well its a mystery of the universer I guess. Happens everywhere.
